Not a fan of the inlays nor abalone binding, but they're cool otherwise. I especially dig the white Star with dots.

    What's the body wood?

Hmmm, the Charvel website doesn't say, does it? Well, the LP Desolations are mahogany, maybe the Stars are also.

Im sorry dude..Im not pokin at you but do you know what you can buy at a 600$ price point..There are tons of vintage Japan stuff for you to chose from that are "real" guitars. Im gonna reapeat what I said in another post..

*Thats not a good tone in those YouTube videos for these. *Its sure in the hell not a Charvel tone. Lets not fool ourselves here. This is Toys-R-Us quality woods with slightly better body shape engineering, upgraded pickups and paint. Its just a profitability formula thats failing in this economy.. Not a single one of the offerings put out in the last 10 yrs will ever be hailed as a "keeper" much less a collectible IMHO

The new "Soloist" is an arch top too, these will be incredible guitars, and new with discounts you can get them for about $600 w/o case.

I'd love to get one of the single hums, maybe one of the 2 hums if it had some other inlays.

I keep going back to Scooter's post. I'm thinking a white or black star with a swapped maple neck and black sharkies from the DK2M or even a swapped maple with dots from a 90's Dinky Reverse. Could be a pretty sweet looking guitar.

You don't need to tell Charvel750. He's been collecting guitars for a long time and even has Custom Shops that have been in catalogs. He's been around here awhile and knows a thing or two.

                RE:: Charvel750

I was waiting for one of the collectors to grab hold of the single cuttaway. It's a smokin deal and contrary to a post or two...it's made of real wood! Glad you like it...!

Fuckin aye, that white onehum is TITS. White is the colour for it, one hum makes it a rock machine and dots make it more old school charvel. I'm fuckin gettin' one! I can redo the frets if need be and whack in a custom/alt8/fullshred and go to friggin' town.

Then you got peeps talkin' neck swaps! Thats charvel all over. Hotroddin'! My spare dr3 neck on a black one would be killer! Bionic, whats the stats on the neck pocket??

There will always be haters. For a new guitar, especially one from Charvel, $600 is a very fair price for these. And it truly is a great playing and sounding instrument, I know, trust me. I've had better, but this is a good one, no doubt. I mean, when was the last time you saw an archtop Charvel with dual hums? Only once, since the 750, so these are pretty cool.

dude im a newbie here and im not trying to poke at you at all.. But what i do know is this ( read )http://kmcmusic.com/?fa=news&art=1546 * ""New models fuse killer looks, traditional high-performance playability and unprecedented value"" You know what that last part unpresedented value means right? It means you DONT get what you pay for but you get killer looks ( good paintjob ) and ok playability. Kaman are importers and market-teers. Theve been responsible for destroying brands such as Hamer etc by copying the shape of their popular guitars and having people working on dirt floors in third world nations to mass produce guitars at labor rates of like 20-80 cents an hour.. Its a fact..
*save your 600$ and buy a slightly used USA guitar.. youll probably pass this purchase down to your sons or grandsons or maybe even grand daughters.. :-)

Where? I'm not seeing a body wood listed for the Star or Soloist?

Shreddermon, the bodies are Mahogany. Necks are Maple with Rosewood Fingerboards.

To quickly address some other parts of this and the other threads... These and the other Desolation guitars are designed for the modern player and they are available at many different price points. The reality is, we are still building USA guitars in our Custom Shop... for the people that don't want to purchase imported guitars, I think we have you covered... however, considering that there is a pretty large population of guitarists out there... looking for instruments in the lower price points, I think we now have them covered too. IMHO, Charvel's are killer guitars regardless of the price points. New or Used!

Got any sources to back up those so-called 'facts'? Apart from that, what are you basing your opinion on these new Desolation series guitars on? Have you even played one? 'Unprecendented' in this context means that you wouldn't expect these guitars to cost what they do considering the quality - i.e.: you get more than what you pay for. I trust the opinion of someone like charvel750 who, as toejam said has been collecting guitars for a long time so logically speaking has a pretty good idea of what makes a good guitar and a bad one.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.
