That was the best suggestion in the thread. Thanks!

Sorry 'bout that one, tim. Initially I wrote you a crappy answer and decided to delete it. Apparently, I didn't quite make it, leaving an "f" there.
I hope the "f" was somewhat useful to you anyway

I say don't route it at all. Be unique and mount the pickup upside-down above the strings. You don't pick down there anyway, do you? Talk about easy pickup changes! Use an EMG quick disconnect.

As it turns out, the "f" was the key to the whole thing. You are brilliant!

So here is the "job". First, I used a CAD program to create a custom template and then a laser to transfer the template to the body. Oh wait, it was just a pickup ring and a Sharpie. Close enough.

Then I programmed my CNC for some precision pickup routing.

See how clean that is! I was going for that Jackson Custom Shop look:

And then final installation. Nothing looks better on a purple guitar with a blue bridge than a green pickup ring. Sometimes I even amaze myself.

So what sucks is that after I had this all done I discovered that I did not have a @$@*$#@ 3-way switch. Grrrr....

Wood chipper. It has a Kahler on it. Har har har...

I would use a router to just clean it up If you are going to do it, do it right.

Looks good with the pickup in there though!

You sure you just didn't use a chain saw?

Looks good to me, Tim. I may have a switch you can have, to keep you in your budget, if you want. I'll poke around this weekend.

Router? Obviously you have not been following this thread. I have no router and was prepared to spend exactly $0.00 on this endeavor.

It's not that the thought didn't cross my mind. But I don't have a chain saw and in keeping with the $0.00 spirit of the project I was sadly unable to use a chainsaw.

That's mighty cool of you. I am going out to GC this weekend and was planning on snagging one if they have one. I may take you up on your offer if they don't though. Thanks!

Now that this one is under my belt, I'm thinking of adding a middle pickup to Big Red. Thoughts?

What you should do Tim, is do a bathtub route on Big Red, and make a pickguard for it. That way you can change the pickup configuration whenever you want. You could probably make the pickguard out of old cereal boxes or something.

By the way, where did ya get that blue Kahler?

...in any situation by the way.
