I say don't route it at all. Be unique and mount the pickup upside-down above the strings. You don't pick down there anyway, do you? Talk about easy pickup changes! Use an EMG quick disconnect. My goal in life is to be the kind of asshole my wife thinks I am.

So here is the "job". First, I used a CAD program to create a custom template and then a laser to transfer the template to the body. Oh wait, it was just a pickup ring and a Sharpie. Close enough.
Then I programmed my CNC for some precision pickup routing.
See how clean that is! I was going for that Jackson Custom Shop look:
And then final installation. Nothing looks better on a purple guitar with a blue bridge than a green pickup ring. Sometimes I even amaze myself.
So what sucks is that after I had this all done I discovered that I did not have a @$@*$#@ 3-way switch. Grrrr....I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Looks good to me, Tim. I may have a switch you can have, to keep you in your budget, if you want. I'll poke around this weekend.

I would use a router to just clean it up If you are going to do it, do it right.
Looks good with the pickup in there though!

What you should do Tim, is do a bathtub route on Big Red, and make a pickguard for it. That way you can change the pickup configuration whenever you want. You could probably make the pickguard out of old cereal boxes or something.
By the way, where did ya get that blue Kahler?
