Two weeks later ebay got me a super clean Mocha for just under $1100 so the deals are out there.

I prefer the older two knob Sears headstock version for many different reasons but that's just me.

The simplicity of the layout not to mention the wood selection of the necks and bodies is superior IMHO.

Love all of my PC1's !!!!
They are really beautiful guitars for sure and I'll bet the neck is sick too!
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

Here is my 1997 Chlorine PC1

Removed the DOA sustainer unit sadly and installed a Duncan JB at the bridge and a Duncan Hot Rails at the neck. The two mini switches are not connected and the guitar sports a 300k CTS volume pot.

As much as I was saddened to remove the sustainer this guitar just breathes now and screams too!

All my PC1's have the Brass Big Block upgrade from Adam at Fu Tone.com too!

          Stop double-penetrating you DP'er

Nothing wrong with bumping old threads. It went straight to the newest post for me. If you had to wade through the first page before noticing how old it was, that's on you.

However, asking how much to pay for or how much to ask for a guitar has nothing to do with the thread's original question.

I'm simply not impressed that you shoved an artist sig guitar in the face of said artist and had him sign it. I never understood why people did that. But then again, if people are stupid enough to pay more for it because it is signed....

It doesn't add to the tone or playability. People use the excuse of "when that artist is dead their autograph stays behind and you can't get a new one so it'll be a piece of history". To which I reply: "big fuckin deal".
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Ok, that was more to the point I was making of why bumping an unrelated thread with prices from 7 years ago which mean nothing in today's world.

Since everyone keeps bumping the thread and bitching about it, I'll do it too...

When I get enough coin I would love to get a strat head PC-1, but I remember reading a thread where several members said the sustainers always go tits up after a while. What's up with that? I believe a brand new PC-1 is around $3,000 right now, for that price I expect stuff to work right. Can any owners shed light on this problem, in case I or another JCF'er is would like to order one in the future?

From what I've heard (and I don't know if it's true because I've never owned one) Sustainers go bad because of a transducer problem.

Gorgeous top bro! Here's an Idea for those unused switches. Wire on up as a coil tap and the other as a kill switch. Then you can't get killer strat like clean stuff going on and do some cool Randy Rhoades type kill switch tricks.

I suppose I could but truth be told Im into a clean set up and they just really plug those holes.

i might try a Fernadez Sustainer in the future mind you...

Ok, to all that bitched about me bumping an old thread..let me say how I found it. I was online searching for info on the PC1 to figure out if the trade I had worked out was a decent deal. Google brought me to this thread. I signed up and made a comment on it. I am so sorry I offended you for bumping an old thread. I honestly never even checked to see if it was old or new, just that it was a discussion on PC1's. So just so I know in the future..what's the statue of limitations on an thread?

                        Sustainers go bad because.....

The soldering is totally crap and I have seen many cold solder joints especially around the battery boxes with the super thin wires they run.

Open up a PC1 control cavity and yes you will see a ton of wires but the installation always makes me laugh. Its rather sloppy to say the least.

There are far better sustainer experts on the board that can tell you whey they fail but more than a few of mine have failed over time and they are never gigged and simply played at home.

I prefer to buy used. Main reason being saving money. As long as the seller makes you aware of ALL damages, then you've potentially got a better deal than buying a shop soiled or so-called brand new one costing much more. To me, a manufacturer's warranty doesn't mean anything other than a 7 day turnaround for a refund or 30 days for a repair. And even with the refund, you get the BS "restocking fee" crap. Only the electronics are covered for 1 year. I just live in the wrong county or country.

That and the best ones in my book are the 1st generation Sears headstock and they are always found used and usually for a great deal!

                              This.
The newer ones look like they were built in a hurry.

I've seen routes on the newer ones off by a few millimeters and many look like they were having races to see who could install a sustainer the fastest.
Sloppy work. My daughter can do better solder work and I just started to teach her (she's only 10 btw).

One big advantage to buying new is the lifetime warranty Jackson USA offers. In my case it paid off big time!!! My PC-1 was built with some manufacturing issues and the neck had to be replaced under warranty...

Admitedly this is the only guitar I've ever bought that had an issue like this, and I've bought plenty of used guitars over the years so take it for what its worth...
