Still a damn shame, whatever happened to "if you want it, we will build it"? To get a true custom shop these days, seems one has to turn to european companies (ie Ran).

Seems like the Jackson Custom Shop doesn't do anything other than variations of production or artist signature models anymore.

But without hijacking the thread, awesome guitar neilli!

Yeah, still curious to hear what pickups were used?

And curious about the black back, too - just an appearance choice, or maybe you went with a different body wood?

Can't help but to stare and drool.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! It came out exactly how I wanted it to and I have to say it plays absolutely awesome Because of my aversion to big necks, I even considered grabbing a used (cheap) PC1 and having the neck shaved down, but this was definitely the way to go.

The pickups are Dimarzios, a Tone-Zone in the bridge and a Chopper, with no coil taps or anything. Out of habit, I usually go for EMGs or Duncans, but decided to be a bit different and give Dimarzios a try and so far I'm really really happy with them.

The back is actually dark trans brown. It's very difficult to capture because it's so dark and so shiny that the pics make it look virtually opaque black.

Looking at the pics again and still drooling. I wouldn't be surprised to see Phil suddenly playing one identical to this one in the near future.

Anyway, what made you decide to go with black tuners since the rest of the hardware is gold? It was the perfect choice. The black matches the black logo. The whole thing is just a perfect storm of awesome.

To be honest, the black tuner thing was really a nod to the SD era more than a plan to match the logo LOL I debated about going for a black locking nut etc too, but decided that could look too much like it was the neck from one on the body from another..

Ian, one last question: did they "triple step" that stain, like a PRS finish? Sure looks like that might be the case. Really makes the wide quilt bands "pop" visually.

That I'm not sure of to be honest. I have some pics of the progress of the stain, but I can't tell.

Awesome guitar! Exactly the changes I would make to that guitar. That color looks like PRS Tiger Eye.

Ian that is just awesome! Love every bit of it, and the changes to the neck sound perfect to me as well. The quilt and color are amazing. Fantastic job
