• Vinnie Vincent Jackson V Questions

Ok Folks...I am going to see KISS tomorrow so the juices are flowing! I am a HUGE fan, seen them every year since '79, many years I saw them multiple times. I own several PS 10's, 2 PS 2000B, one I had crack mirrored, A 69 3PuP Black Beauty like Ace's, a '72 LP Natural Custom that is signed by the guys, an EPI Ace and the Holy Grail, the Custom Shop (not the production model) Ace Frehley Model Les Paul...which is my one TRUE love in my collection (next to ALL my Jackson's, Of course)! But I have never been able to get a Vinnie Vincent Jackson Double Rhoads, so what's the deal?? I know from the past that one or two of you on here own a few. I have seen several on Ebay, all of which ended up back doored or went for WAY too much $$$

So can anyone give me the story on these things? Why are they SO damn hard to find and why are they so damn expensive, I mean, Vinnie is a great player and an even better song writer, but all in all he is an a$$hole. I have heard and read many horror stories of how he treats fans and so forth. I have personally never met him, tho I would love to cuz even though I have heard the crap, I still respect the guy! I just wonder what is going on with these...so those few of you out there hording them, please give it up! What's the truth, ruth??

    Thanks!!
    Be COol!

Well, they're custom shop only, and were never made for production. At one time, I believe the Custom Shop said they wouldn't make any more of them, and the original and older ones are rare and desirable.

Feel lucky if you can find one for under $2500 in mint condition.

For me personally, I think it's a unique guitar, and one that Jackson probably will never reproduce. I hate KISS with a passion, and have never heard a lick of what Vinnie has recorded. I'm a Jackson fan, and this, along with the RR LTD's, are the Holy Grails of Jackson in my opinion. I think the value of these two has skyrocketed because they're artist guitars and attract fans outside of the Jackson circle - ex. Randy fans who aren't even players own LTD's as display pieces.

You KISS fans will pay through the nose for anything KISS related, and the VVV is KISS related. Case in point...what, 3 Farwell tours now with tickets priced at $50 minimum? While I admire those guys for dropping the hammer on as many hotties as they have in their careers, musically they do nothing for me.

Those are some tough words against the hottest band in the world. Without starting WW3 I would just like to mention that Kiss related items are pricey because of the popularity of the band. Love them or hate them you have to admit that they launched a "1000" musical careers. Their influence in the hard rock/metal genre is huge and cannot be denied. Personally I like Ace better. okay, as the resident kiss freak, i've gotta chime in.

there were only 28 VVVs made, and as XENO said, they weren't a production model. not sure how many vinnie had himself, but he's told me that he's kept many of them.

i've also been told by many that jackson won't make them anymore, but i'm not sure if that still holds true.

and i've gotta agree with brett; kiss wants your money, and a lot of it. i realized fast that if i even considered keeping up with the stuff they put out in the stores, i'd be peniless. so i stopped caring unless they come up with something that's really cool.

I'm not doubting the musical significance of KISS, nor am I bad mouthing anyone for being a fan, so don't take my "strong words" too critically. As a non fan, I've noticed that KISS puts out a lot of crap for money "for the fans" when it's really "for the wallets". I cannot think of another band that does this to their extent. Box sets, dolls (huh?), who knows how many Farwell tours, etc. It's all about the benjamins. Allegiance in the KISS Army is almost like tithing to a church - about 10% of your income would go to KISS if you bought every piece of "memorabilia" released in a given year.

And why does the "hottest band on the planet" need Aerosmith to co-headline a tour with them now? Hot bands historically just require an opening act.

            Sully, thanks.

Good points Brett. I think they needed Aerosmith because of the lack of original members. I also agree that for the last several years they have been money grubbing and totally motivated by profits only. I do love the music though and I credit much of my initial interest in taking up guitar back in the mid 70's to them (and the original guitar player from Chicago who blew his brains out playing Russian roulette). Personally I think the Vincent double V is the coolest Jackson ever(next to the Coors Light Silver Bullet of course ). Was it ever GOTM???

Agreed ... How many albums you gonna pay for with the same songs packaged differently...

With that stated.. Ace Frehley was the reason I picked up the electric guitar ..if e hadn't have driven me to it it probably would have been Rhoads a few yrs later ... but still the influence is there and has earned its place in history.. My opinion is it has helped shape the course of modern music ..

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Totally agree with Kevin on this, and I can't stand KISS since Alive II. However, they were the first rock and roll band that I knew, and were a HUGE influence in the direction that my musical tastes took when I first heard them at 9 yrs old. I just listen to and appreciate the old stuff, and ignore the parody of themselves that they have become.

I saw a VV Invasion music vid on tv the other day, he was playing that pink Jackson VVV...I kinda like it how he does these fast shred licks and then just kinda randomly makes noise to break it up. He'll be shredding along then just go "Whaaagh!!"

Re: Vinnie Vincent Jackson V Questions

I was the biggest kiss fan ever since I saw the Love Gun tour when I was 10 right up until the release of Dynasty. That album sucked and as far as I'm concerned that is when Kiss went down the tubes.

I have hated all their stuff since and the fact that they would even consider ANYONE wearing original Kiss makeup is disgusting in my opinion.

Ok , it was great when the did reunion tour #1. but what are they one now?, 3 or 4 Plus the merchandising thing was cool to begin with, but when they came out with the Kiss Casket, I lost all respect that I may have had for them.

Not to mention that the Paul Stanley line of Silvercrap guitars is .........well I won't say.

I think Sully already explained the recent KISS tours: '96 was the big reunion tour; in '98 they released Psycho Circus so they toured supporting that; and 2000 started the Farewell tour. So I guess the question would be: how long is the Farewell Tour supposed to last?
