If they are into Vikings, then they should also know that Vikings were not only destroyers and barbarians but also creators and explorers. That church burning/satan/black metal thing is just a fad like Disco or Grunge only in underground level. even though my english is as fluent as it gets. (no, slovenia is not an english speaking country.. we start learning it in school, actively in the 4th grade... but i speak fluent german since i was 5 and english since i was 9.. got a bit rusty on the german, since i talk in english the majority of the time (even more than i talk in my native tongue) got it from listening to music, watching tv, reading books (i refuse to read translations.. all my books, that were written in english, are in english) and so on and so forth)

about the so called "satanists" (the cultists and fagotists - damn man, what a great term.. fagotism hahaha) they're stupid and dont think even half a step ahead and about the consequences of their actions.
like said, burning a church or a christian simbol, wont undermine christianity, it will only undermine you, and the true satanists.
since all they're doing is burning down buildings.. which has nothing to do with christianity - the religion. if you want to fight it, fight it on an intelectual level, since THERE is where the war is waging.
i hate christianity and what it stands and stood for, what it was used for, since it's making, but you dont see me burn churches to the ground.. and there are three, within a couple of blocks.
to me, christianity represents centuries of opresion, discrimination and prosecution. even though people belive in let past be past, it is still going on. not in such a scale as the then crusades, or the inquisition, or just general witch hunting, but it's there. and even though it's non-existant, if you compare it to the atrocities people did in the name of God Almighty in the past, you cant undo it. for me, supporting christianity, is supporting the actions in the past. the same as supporting nazism.

seriously though...the guitardude has covered the basic ground on the viking subject, everything you hear about Norwegian Black Metal's "connection" to Satanism is IMO actually just a culmination of the actions of "Varg" Vikernes in the early 90's, when he burned a church and killed his bandmate...Rather than ACTUAL opposition to christianity itself.

What he did, the media went a long way to connect it with his music in Burzum and Mayhem (not unlike what "your" media did with Marilyn Manson vs. Columbine and the other high schools...)

Personally, I'm not much into Black Metal myself...Immortal has some cool riffs and stuff, but I could do without the trademark "ghoul-vocals" they all stick to...and the production usually fucking sucks
To me..it's just an image, and it feels pretty lame to watch. It's like showboatin' for the sake of showboatin'..
Like KISS with makeup...it was probably very COOL when they did it in the 70's..but for me to look at it now it looks kinda weak, you know? Not to take anything away from their music, KISS has lots of cool stuff (early)...but I feel the whole image thing gets in the way.
If black metal bands wants to be theatrical in their appearance..more power to them...but a lot of them probably take their image way too seriously..maybe even themselves

Davey, I know why you feel that way towards to Christianity, my country was also one of the victims durning the period of crusaders. But right now no one gives a shit about it anymore, you hardly see any people who are into religion in my country, pretty much everyone here are atheists.
But one of the things I find weird is the hypocritical attitude towards to Islam by Christians, Islam originally wasn't that bad at all, Islam wasn't about destroying other cultures, traditions and religions like Christianity.

Their idols were about fun, Alice Cooper and The New York Dolls.
The followers of KISS were also about fun, Motley Crue, WASP, Hanoi Rocks etc. but not all....Venom, Kind Dimaon/MF, Celtic Frost weren't about fun, they were into evil stuff but really they were just normal people too and had certain twist about their stuff. But their followers (church burning black metallers) took everything seriously and went to extreme with all that stuff. It's pretty sad that in real life they aren't evil at all, infact most of them are some of the biggest pussys ever. As I said, It's a fad....just another underground trend, to be "cool".
