In the long run, it doesn't really make any difference. US companies sell billions of dollars worth of helicopters, airliners, fighters, and miscellaneous military equipment overseas every year. What's the big deal if it goes the other way for once? So far, over 500 F35s are on tentative order for various European countries, and more probably destines for Canada, Australia, Israel, and India. These will be built by Lockheed Martin, although the UK, Italy, Norway, and a few others have contributed to the development.
