Blu-Ray is 25GB per layer, so 50 GB on a dual-layer disc. At this point, the only Blu-Ray player worth buying is the PS3 as its the only one that can be updated to fully play later spec movies.

On a side note, I thought Sony forbid any porn from being released on Beta. I'm too young to know what was going on at the time...

They just announced on the news that people with analog will not be required to buy a converter for another four years..not by next year as most folks believe.

I'm like fett..nothing wrong with being a little "old school"..I don't miss what I never had. I'll cross the technology bridge when my ol' 56" breaks..

      Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

One drastic disadvantage of the Playstation 3 is the fact that you cannot send messages to your friend from within a game; in order to reach the XMB or ‘main menu’ of the PS3, you need to quit out of the game you are playing, and go to your friends list that way. There is nothing in the way of voice chat (with the exception of Warhawk), and no cross-game invite system. With XBOX Live, hit one button and you can reach your friends right away. Send them a voice message, or invite them to the server you’re playing on. Time for paybacks on the 14 year punk from Idaho that wasted me in COD4! Bastard!

On PSN, you get an icon, and a small about-me section. None of this can be viewed in-game, and there is no way to tell anything else about the gamer. PSN does not extend to an online version that can be viewed from the PC, either.

With PSN "Home", Sony is banking on Home being a huge reason to play games on the Playstation 3 as opposed to the XBOX 360.

The bottom line is many were looking forward to titles like Heavenly Sword and Lair to make a statement, but those games pretty much fell flat on their faces (especially Lair, a total failure). The 360 on the other hand saw some excellent titles, including some that may be considered among the best games for any console, such as Halo 3, BioShock, and Mass Effect. So for game selection, the 360 not only offers a better experience with multiplatform games, but their exclusive titles are more often better than those on PS3.

So at this point when there are exclusive game that come out by Sony that are worth a crap, or the B-ray takes over as THE format, I'll hold tight on getting a PS3. Maybe another price drop by then?

If you don't play online, like me, all that doesn't matter one iota. I could care less about seeing my "friends" and being able to invite them to the server I'm on and whatever. Sounds like a big, freaking hassle to me...

As for no games for the PS3. I had fun playing MOH Airborne. I'm having a blast playing Assassins Creed and Rainbow Six: Vegas right now as well as Motorstorm. GTA is not going to be 360 exclusive, not that I care, that game is about as lame as it gets. Oh yeah, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare is pretty sweet too...

Now those games may be available for the 360 as well. I don't know...

But factor in the falure rate for the 360 and the PS3 was a slam dunk for me...
          I'm angry because you're stupid

i can understand that ... i'm on my second 360, and I think Newc has replaced 7 of them? I have AC and Rainbow six I picked up last Thursday. Rainbow six 2 is due out in a couple weeks too.

But you have to admit, the thought of playing COD, GOW or Halo live with a few members from here as where you can talk smack and shoot a plasma ray up their ass does sound entertaining? One way to settle a debate I could hear SW yelling at Cig now "Get you ass in bed now, or I'll tell Bengal you will be grounded!"

Good stuff! Well I can see your point when you put it that way. It would be fun to settle arguements online with plasma rifles. That would be a blast...

Vegas is a good game but AC blows me away. The 360 degree spin that goes on when you syncronize your map on the tops of the buildings blows me away. Great game with great graffics...

My buddy has a 360 and it's a great machine, save the falure rate. He's still on his first, had it about a year. What it really comes down to is I've been using the PS controller for about the last 10 years or so. I try the 360 controller and I don't know where shit is. I could learn it but I like that the PS layout is second nature to me...

I do NOT like the fact that the controller doesn't vibrate anymore. The Sixaxis doesn't do shit for me. I LOVED the Duoshock. That's the biggest downer so far...

I didn't even know that my dad knew what HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are. You should see his sweet VHS collection! Megagames.com posted that toshiba is pullin the plug on HD-DVD soon. Good thing I have a PS3 and didn't buy that stupid HD-DVD player for my XBox 360.

Bah, it's all what's cool to say. Quadraphonic wasn't cool but surround sound is the way of the future even though it is basicly the same thing 20 years later. Blue-Ray isn't cool because it sounds different than the $4000 you just shelled out on your HDTV. I just bought an HDTV, I need an HDDVD to go along with it.

                      Blu-Ray is the winner

                      > I saw a segment on the G4 channel about the big-ass Consumer Electronics Show that was discussing the pros/cons of both formats, and it WAS indeed mentioned that the porn industry in general would have perhaps the biggest impact on which format won out.

Speaking of Beta, does anyone else know where a totally functional Hi-Fi Beta machine is? I do,a buddy that used to own the local cd shop has it in his living room stereo rack, along with enough spare parts for 3 complete rebuilds. Hell, this guy still has BLANKS!

He's also got every other home electronics component made,Hi-Fi VCR,old-school Laserdisc,Denon tube-powered turntable and dual-well cassette player,8-track,component CD burner with MiniDisc,a TASCAM reel-to-reel,and a Sony HD recorder, kinda like a TiVo box,but with 2 500GB drives in it. His amp and pre-amp are tube-powered SAE,ran thru an Audio Control Home Epicenter and AudioSource EQ-1,which is the "Ferris Bueller" model EQ. His speakers are 4 old-school Klipcsh K-Horns. He says he doesn't need surround with this rig. Tommy D.

Hell, there is still a station here in Des Moines who shoots on Beta
I think most of them still do. When we have commercials made they are put on beta tapes.
Between HD and BlueRay, they both only have 400+ movies on ech format. The only reason BR is going to win out is because of one of the big movies companies stoped making HD. It's sad that a format that can't even put out machines that can play the dvds correctly is going to win out. I just bought an HD player and already netflix is telling me no more HDs. When they stop making the regular dvds then I will buy a blueray. until then I will let my player upscale the regular discs.

bit of a throwback, but does anyone remember the old Video 2000 format, that ran as an alternative to Beta and VHS. Much better than either Beta or VHS and you could record on both sides of the cassettes!!!! Not 100% but i think it was invented by either Grundig or B&O.

Microsoft just dropped its HD-DVD support and lowered the price of the HD-DVD Add-on for the Xbox360 from $129.99 to $49.99. If anyone wants a sweet deal and has a xbox360 go get em! If you get it before 2/28 theres a mail in offer to get 5 free HD-DVDs as well, oh and the player includes King Kong! So 6 HD-DVDs and a player for $20 more than what a HD-DVD by itself costs. And just wait until stores start marking down their inventories of HD-DVDs! Theres like 400-500 movies that are gonna be super cheap! Who cares if they are on a dying format, the format will stay alive in your living room forever!
