A pure market approach to health care is not going to happen. We don't have it now and we are not ever going to. What we have now isn't sustainable either. Why should we pay more for medicine invented by US companies? So that Canadians can enjoy the benefit of the drugs developed here that never would be developed in their country because of price controls?

Aren't those drug prices subsidized by the heavily taxed Canadians?
See. A bit of common ground...it is a complicated weave. I'm just using way too many words to say, don't trust the people who screwed with it in the first place to fix the problem.

I think they way it works is that other governments tell Pfizer or Merck what they will pay for a particular drug. They threaten to ignore the patent and have it made in country otherwise. The companies say OK, but we have to make up the 800 mil or so dev. cost plus our profit and we have to do it in about 7 years (before patent is up). Someone is going to pay. Guess who?
