I know for a fact that rats don't care where they live if they have food and water. When I lived in Marin in my $550K house we had rats everywhere. The county had stopped the rat abatement they had been doing for years. I had a beautiful citrus tree in the backyard and my neighbor had a woodpile and a swimming pool. Those liitle bastards would climb into the tree and gnaw through the skin of the hanging fruit and have a feast. Then they would go next door when they got thirsty or if they wanted to crash in the woodpile. I would trap 5 rats a night on a good day. I trapped two in the same rat trap. They love peanut butter.
