• My solution for the BS gas prices

> Let's call a spade a spade, our government has a history of taking what it wants or needs, and generally imposing our will to stimulate defense spending and stuff like that. To help stave off the growing concern of BS gas prices, why don't we stage a massive raid, take control of the 5 biggest refineries over there, put our Marines,Rangers,Delta Force, and SEAL operators in charge of the security, and let Johnny Jihad come to us,instead of playing his game and crawling thru tunnels and shit? Everyone on the planet knows they have no chance against our military in direct fighting, air, land,or whatever. Why are we playing the game by his rules and letting them kill our guys a few at a time, and not standing in one spot and telling the whole world to come get some? Tommy D.

Why don't we just all convert our vehicles to alternative fuels? The technology is out there. But the oil companies don't want to lose money and they have a lot of pull with the government. Notice how some higher ups have ties to oil companies?

+1 Travis.

There's a guy out there (can't recall where) but he's got a perpetual motion machine that powers his house. He hasn't paid an electric bill in years, and he guards it closely.
The Guvmint won't issue a patent or copyright for it, and he won't give it up for free, and it's rigged to collapse into an unrecognizable pile if anyone opens the cover to see it.

I'm all for making money, but the Oil Barons of this country have "enough". I don't care if they haven't had a price increase that is comparable to other goods and services - they don't NEED to raise prices. Petroleum products make more than gasoline and heating fuels - how about plastics and polymers used in everything from food containers to computers to cars? And each time, they make a mint.

Believe me, if I could find the plans to eliminate the internal combustion engine and still get the same horsepower, it'd be plastered all over the internet, and we'll see how Exxon DOESN'T go broke like they claim.

Anyone see that car Hossman had a while back? I can't recall if it was a hybrid or straight electric, but he was saying that it performs as well (or close to) a traditional gas-burner.
They were all rounded up and crushed.

Crushed!

Why? To guarantee the gas companies had no competition.

Isn't there an anti-trust claim in there somewhere? Microsoft was hit with one for locking up the computer software industry, and aren't the oil companies doing the same thing? They have the lock on the automotive industry and they dictate that cars will not only run on gasoline but will NOT be as fuel efficient as the car makers are claiming.

> I saw a picture in a magazine of Daryl Hannah's ride, and think we should mass produce these. Superficially,it's a reasonably nice, flat black Monte Carlo SS version of the El Camino, but the back window had in big, bold, white letters "this car runs on 100% recycled vegetable oil". It only has a 5 gallon tank, but gets something like 80 MPG,and you can get recycled veggie oil from any fast-food restaurant you want, long as you catch them when they are changing it out. She probably doesn't even pay anything for it. Tommy D.

There has been alternative fuel engines around since the early 60's. Our government and the oil companies will never "allow" us to stop using gas. Did you know that a company came out with a tire in the 60's that lasted 300,000 miles? The tire companies squashed that one fast.
I remember the Chrysler Turbine car. THey made several of them and they travelled around the world running on all kinds of crap. Practically 0 emissions, great fuel economy and you could run the engine on just about anything. Most if not all of them went to the scrap yard and were crushed into little cubes while the gas companies watched and applauded. Sometimes it sucks to be an American. Especially when the pump reads $3.00/gallon.

excuse me, I think you have nothing to complain about with a prize of $3.00 a gallon. I'd say, visit the netherlands and you will never complain again about gas prizes: we have a prize of €1.40 per liter. that makes €5.30 per gallon, which is roughly $6.50 per gallon. to put it in perspective.

I tend to agree on the amount of strings that are running between oil companies and governments. too bad these guys have a focus of about their own lifespan

well yeah...you guys are absolutely right ..all of you...in this day and age..all this technology we have..

solar cars , electric cars , vegetable oil cars , natural gas cars ...hell I bet the have a hydro car that runs on pure tap water...I betcha!

But...they rather anal rape us instead..and we LIKE it!!!

what's funny is that in the early seventies...you couldn't buy a V8..nobody wanted them...I pumped gas in the late 70's.. my first job..Unleaded was 58 cents a Gal..Regular was 56 cents..

Now with these gas prices almost reaching 3 bucks a gal...all you have is all the gas burning power house engines ...SUV's , Hemis , everything is 500 horsepower now...it's the opposite...of the 70's..

from everything from family rides like a Chrysler 300 to a Hummer...I don't get it..and the sales are BOOMING...not dropping...everyone wants horsepower..but bitch about the price of gas

as long as these people are buying this stuff and they are some cool vehicles...they will Rape you at the pumps..

go figure..

For what it's worth, I heard the quote from sheik Yamani (he is or was the chief spokesman for OPEC)+ "The Stone Age ended and there were still stones. The Oil Age will end and there will still be oil." His points being: 1. There is no shortage of oil reserves. 2. All the new technologies and the rising price of oil will only hasten the time when we can actually kick the oil habit. 3. "MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES!!!!!!" Interesting topic.
What do you all think is the cutoff for gas?
Prices keep rising, and people keep buying. How much does a gallon have to hit before people stop driving so much?

When it cost's me $50/tank I think I'll really take notice. Right now my 2005 Suzuki Forenza costs about $30 to fill if its near bone dry. Its got a 13-14 gallon tank so $3.75-$4.00/gal is going to start to hurt.
