Re: Military Rollcall

I was USNR from '93 and got out on 11jun01.
I was never active duty and actually, I went in through a program called APG. Stands for advanced pay grade and the USN and USCG were doing it for a while in the 90s. Basically, based on your civilian profession, mine being law enforcement, you enlist and go in as an E3 to E5, depending on what billets they have open at the time. Since i had a degree in law enforcement and had been a cop for 3 years, they took me immediately. I went to my "basic training" or APG school in New Orleans. Worked on the USS Typhoon, and went home to drill each month. Clinton's cutbacks caused my unit to be eliminated. Sucks because my gaining command was out of Guam and I was really hoping to get over there each year.
The APG program was very poorly run, IMO and very disorganized. I would not recommend it for other people although the USN is a great, tradition-soaked, motivated branch of our military.
I miss wearing my crackerjacks, believe it or not and, aside from the Marine Corps,(which are really just a sub-branch of the Navy... ) the Navy has the best looking dress uniforms of any of the US military branches.
Here's a joke for my Marine Corps brothers:
What is the purpose of the front flap on the USN 13-button broadfall trousers?
SO A MARINE CAN WIPE HIS MOUTH WHEN HE'S DONE!

For anyone who is not familiar with Navy uniforms....our broadfall trousers have a large flap that opens downward on the front of the garment. It is secured with 13 buttons and is a bear to get open, especially when you really have to go to the head. Hence, the meaning behind the joke. And these jokes are common, especially between Marines and Seamen (alright, no sperm jokes, we've already heard 'em). The Marines make it known that the Navy is simply a taxi taking them where they need to go. Truth is, neither could function optimally without the other and despite the rivalry, our roots are in the same place.

Re: Military Rollcall

Well, ummm.....there are at least 2 active duty Marines on this board here, myself and SDavis80....

Yeah, we readilly agree that the US Marines are a part of the Department of the Navy, we say that we are the mens department

Seriously....I have served aboard the USS Nassau (LHA-4) for the 96-97 Med Float with BLT 1/8 and worked on the flight deck for the entire time. I made some great friends in the Navy and they are a hard working, underpaid, unappreciated bunch that work on that ship. The flight deck in inherently dangerous as shit....if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, you will get cooked by exhaust, or get in the way of the moving rotors....not a nice way to go

So for all my Navy Brothers and Sisters...we love ya, we just don't understand ya's lol....but hey, one team one fight.....lets kick these turban wearing zealots back to the 5th fucking century where they belong and shove a M-16A2 up every asshole who thinks he/she is on a personal vendetta agains our country, way of life, freedoms, or ideals. Hmmmmmmm... are we gonna start tellin lil' jokes about our fellow services? We are?! Kewl! Here's mine....

Why do Marines deploy by ship and not plane? So the sailors will have someone new to dance with.

I know.. kinda lame but fuck it. Sorry LPC/SDavis80. Fire away gentlemen!!

19D Cavlary Scout
1995-2004

Started out as a Cav Scout, did my basic training at Fort Knox, KY in 1995-1996. Then went on as a scout STILL stationed at Fort Knox KY 1996-1997. Said to myself I've had just about enough of Fort Knox KY and tried out for Explosive Ordnance Disposal EOD). Hardest friggin school I've EVER even thought about trying. Never do it again LOL. In EOD school form 1998-1999 (last graduating class of the millenium) at Eglin AFB FL (friggin paradise). Then on to Fort Drum NY.....talk about extremes!!! Holy Cripes!!!! 75-80 degrees every day to -20 to -45 degrees (yeah I arrived there January of 2000). Deployed to the Middle East in 2001 with the 725th Ord Co (EOD) (the Fort Drum bunch) and got to live as a Bedouin in Kuwait's (yeah I know Ali Asyleem) Udari Range, lived like a king in Suadi Arabia at Eskan Village, and then lived like a Prince at Doha Qatar (good times). After that stint, I moved to Fort Jackson SC 748th Ord Co (EOD) for a bit until the Army decided "Hey there Sgt McCoy we don't need you anymore....You got Lyme disease" lol Best thing that ever happened to me. Now I work for the Army as a civilian...still blowing shit up (I destroy the stockpile and nonstockpile chemical weapons arsenal located at Edgewood Proving Grounds MD) and getting paid a WHOLE lot more cash for it.
I live on the edge of danger facing life and death every single day.....then I leave her at home and go disarm bombs.
