#3. There is no number 3.

    Who do you play for?
1 and 2 combined lately. I don't know what's the deal but one of my very underground experimental bands is enjoyed overwhelmingly by music school chicks.
I don't really have a preference to whom I play to though... Girls who screw you after a gig don't do it because you're some musical mastermind but a performer on the stage. Superficial things are more important for some people. Simply being a performer is something special. That's where the two worlds go in different directions. I mean I don't discuss about Ravel's orchestration techniques with someone who is sucking my dick after a gig. Hot women is purely an after show affair, the gender and the looks are irrelevant when it comes to actual musical communication.

I play because it's fun; because my best friend of 20-odd years is in the band; because it's cool; because it's such a complete break from my day job; to stroke my ego.

I couldn't hang as a guitarist with three quarters of the JCF. But at the end of a gig as most people are just filing out, some half-drunk punter will stagger out of their way up to the stage, having spent the last couple of hours dancing their asses into a sweaty puddle, just to tell me how great we sound and how much fun they had, it's pretty nice. It's also pretty sweet when the girlies dancing up front make googly eyes at you on stage and a couple of dudes are air-guitaring along during solos.

Of course, when they see me at the bar they go "fuck, he's so oooold! And he's not holding a guitar anymore". And the magic is gone.

When it comes down to it - I mightn't be much, but I'm a shitload better than someone who doesn't play at all. The fact that we're up there playing songs they kinda recognise is cool enough for a lot of people.

At 43 (now)? I play to have fun. No other reason.

And yes, playing to thousands of people is more of a rush than any drug.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL

But Uli Roth is older than us. He's not looking for girls. He likes people..and he loves when people appreciate his music.

That is what muscians, or any kinda of artist is for. If you want to easily make girls, and people like you, play what is popular..especially country, rap, rave DJ ect. But I think artist take pride in what they do and have a duty challenging themselves. If not, everthing becomes stagnant. Sometimes overwhelming talent and art is not that subjective, and will stand the test of time

I play for myself, because I enjoy playing music. Crowd or no crowd, live performance or rehersal, I get a rush from playing music. That said, if I'm in front of a crowd, naturally, the rush is escalated somewhat...... ok.... A lot, but most of the time, I look forward to rehersal with just as much excitement as I do live performances. Maybe even more since there's not as much setup required.

When I played live, it was for myself. I was another person on stage. There may as well have been 20,000 people there, because I played like there was whether or not there were 20 people in the room. It was an escape for me. I was a rock star on the stage, everything else just fell away for an hour. I didnt get to really express myself artistically in that band though, if I would have, Id have played for that too. We basically expressed the singers artistic expression, if it can so be called. Primarily though, I was in my own little fantasy world.

Yes, Tweeeeeeetch. Whenever I was on stage..I owned it.

When you do that..everyone wants to lick your balls.

If you put Steve Vai on stage with me..I'd make him look like a Jerry's kid.

He just played a devil...I am one.

I don't have opinions..just the facts. These are facts!
