are you describing what you'd see if you look at the guitar from the side, and look at the area where the fretboard is over the body? i can't say for certain, but depending on the setup/neck angle, that may not be all fretboard. if it has a TOM or a non recessed floyd, the neck has to be angled back (like a les paul). for that kind of construction, that definitely wouldn't be all fretboard. see pic:

that pic is from an EXCELLENT thread about building a neckthru guitar on neal moser's board. here's a link:

if the construction calls for no neck angle (vtrem or recessed floyd), then yeah, that area could be fretboard only, but i can't say for certain.

      .

Interesting pic! But the area I was describing is right below the stamped serial number! Same area, but different view! The binded area seems thicker than my other Jackson! So I assumed it was all ebony! It's got a Kahler by the way.

take a pic. the only way to tell if it's a thicker slab is to see it without binding.

Honestly, who really cares if the fretboard is a tad thicker? Aren't threads like this kind of a waste of bandwidth???

I'm ever upper class high society,
              God's gift to fretboard notoriety,
I always fill my fretboard room
              (The event is never small)
The social pages say I've got
              The thickest fretboard of all
Oh I've got a thick fretboard
              I've got a thick fretboard
And it's such a thick fretboard
              Dirty thick fretboard
And he's got a thick fretboard
And she's got a thick fretboard
But we've got the thickest fretboard of them all............................................... ........................................

well, all i can say is that you'll never know without the binding removed. and even then...it doesn't really matter. slab boards happen from time to time. personally, i dig em.

oh, and leave that neck alone! now i'm done.
