2006 it is. Glad I could help.
    96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.

Interesting. I expect most would agree the stamp appears more 6 than 7. No doubt bodies and necks are made and stamped in large numbers then stockpiled to await assembly. Weeks or months could pass before a neck plate is attached. Just a theory. Oh well, I initially said 06 or 07.

I believe the stamps say 2006 also. The parts were probably assembled and shipped in Feb 07'.. I say you're both right.. Another thing that is very relevant to this thread is that the Fender people were very helpful. They actually tracked the serial # and told me the dealer it was shipped to.. and guess what.. it matches exactly to the dealer I bought it from... it was indeed a new old stock axe.. I got it back from my luthier
last night..he did a fine job correcting the strings not centered problem. He put on 10's and installed a custom bone nut. She's a looker and a player! NGD pics coming soon

I was a bit surprised Fender gave you the date. I've heard of it happening but never knew if it was true for certain. Many have failed in obtaining info on import serials.

They said as long as it was after 2002 (when they bought Javkson) they could.
