    It might just be the angle of the photo, but the whole locking nut assembly looks too wide for the neck. Does it overhang the neck on both sides? It shouldn't do that. It might be that someone has changed the whole thing, and put the wrong one on....

    Please correct me if I'm wrong!

    It is a 20 year old stock trem, could it be the knife edges? I don't want to take the trem apart and have to replace new strings to find out, but that may be it.
    A Charvel CX592, Jackson JS20 and a Jackson DK2, amongst others....

      R4 nut?

      As for re-springing, flip the bar around so it's pointing at the rear strap pin, press it against your leg face down, and put the springs back on.
