  • Replacement neck for '86 Jackson bolt-on Strat?

    Hi!
Haven't posted in a long time, but have enjoyed lurking! I have an '86 San Dimas Jackson all-maple pointy bolt-on Strat. The frets have serious wear and the tip of the headstock has a serious chunk out of it. The guitar sounds fantastic and I want to start playing it live again, but I'm not into the pointy asthetic anymore. I was thinking of storing the pointy neck and putting a new Strat-head neck on.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a neck that would be a good match? I like the feel of the neck, but I'd rather have a slightly thicker one, and possibly a compound radius- something more comfortable for chording. No locking nut this time around, either.
I tried GMW, but learned that they don't sell separate necks. Also checked out Warmoth, but there's so many options. You guys are the experts, so I look forward to any ideas. Thanks!

Musikraft is a great option. They'll do the 2 1/4" heel & they offer a Charvel strat headstock shape as one of the choices.

Here's the order form page where you can choose specs & options:

Is there any pics of the Charvel style necks? I speced one out with Stainless frets the price is pretty good, but where are these made?

A few guys here have used them. Shawn Lutz has posted pics of his projects in a few places, & headstock shots in this thread:

USA Custom Guitars is another place to check:

You probably need to call them to make sure they can do exactly what you need. The site doesn't list it all out quite as clearly as the Musikraft order page. My first question would be about heel widths available.

        * edit: Pretty sure Musikraft is located in New Jersey

USA makes great stuff.Their necks are very close to the SD profile.I have a few of their SD bodies and they are very high quality.

Warmoth tends to make a consisten product.

So Musicraft only makes the strat head shapes NOT the pointies? If so that's a let down...

If u can grab a used s-head GMW with the correct heal width -you should, keep an eye on the bay. The back shape is classic SD charvie. Also, keep an eye out for s-head jackson woodburn necks - I beleive that they were commonly made with the 2 1/4 in heal that I would expect your Jackson uses. I have one on a charvie body and it is a great player for gigs etc (and I do not have to worry about trashing a real SD charvie).
