Re: Original Inspirations

When I was a kid, my neighbor Mark had a copy of "Escape" by Journey, and I used to go over to his house all the time just to hear that record. That year for Christmas, he bought me that LP and I must have spun it a thousand times. I still consider that to be one of the most thoughtful gifts I've ever received. I still have it, and even though I now listen to death/black metal, etc. more than anything, I have to give Neal Schon credit for making me want to pick up a guitar. I had been listening to alot of Kiss at the time, but as much as I liked Ace, I think my fascination with that band was more of the theatrics than the music. Rock on, Neal!! Anybody gonna graph these answers?

I started playing in the early 80s so it was

Randy
Eddie VH
Tipton/Downing
Mick Mars
Chris Holmes (W.A.S.P.)

One of the greatest thrills of my teen years was actually getting to meet Eddie and checking out all his guitars around 1979 (my Mom led a band with Jan Van Halen in the 60s & 70s).

Re: Original Inspirations

Well lets see for me. It was Ace, Eddie, sweaty Teddy, Billy Gibbons, And Tom Scholz
Ace was the reason I wanted to play guitar and Eddie and Tom were my influences. Billy, Ted and Eddie made guitar playing fun with there music and there unique playing styles. I started playing when I was 16 (1980) so Kiss and VH and Boston were the bands in the lime light at the time. So it was inevitable to be influenced by them.

I'd have to say the very first person to inspire me to pick up the guitar was EVH.Then there was the guitar players that inspired me to actually play the thing which were:

Randy Rhoads
George Lynch

Dimebag Darrell
Gear
'88 Charvel Model 6
