    I know Bob..and that's OK. It was a hell of a time!!

Gary..My Marshall rig is the epitome of Criss Oliva's "Edge of Thorns" tone. It is THAT "recorded" sound to the fuggin' T! I enjoy listening to John play various Savatage riffs thru it..you'd love it!

Black Sabbath was first for me
I remember this fuggin show (Mahogany Rush was on it too)
give it till 1 minute in and it starts to sound good
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt9uEqMGsyc

then it was VH1 and VHII
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YANgetyPuIQ
then it was Whitesnake/Blue Murder (Sykes)
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqb5EcU65IQ
then it was this album (my favorite Loomis tone)
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMYwP...eature=related
I love the guitar sound on this album too (makes me want another 5150)

If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Nick, we are fuggin' bookmatched in influences and tone.

Cleveland Metal too..but he hasn't really fully embraced Jeff and NM like us. I've been trying to convert him for years. He's got with the program, and saw the light..I think.

sounds sweet, Bill. I'd love to get a tone like that, but it's no good for my cover band & I couldn't do Criss justice with it anyway

Well It just doesn't do that..It does everything from AC/DC to VH. But I only play original metal with it..of course.

              Black Album

You could use that tone for anything from ballads to crushing thrash. Though how exactly I'd go about replicating the sound of that album in real life is beyond me!
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

I still can't think of a definitive tone I put up the top. My fave players sound the same regardless what they use. I've been through my entire mp3 collection (most of my cd's) and can't pick one particular sound!

Sepultura - R.I.P (Rest In Pain) from the Schizophrenia album for thrash, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Led Zeppelin for acoustic & Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream for melodic ambiance type jam

and the nicest freaking guy to boot.
This is the tone though, Marshall into a Mesa power amp.

That dude is a serious shredder, But Jeff creates perfect parts for the perfect diverse songs with dynamics..that's what Jeff does IMO. Even Uli acknowledges Jeff''s greatness..you can't get a better endorsement than that.

That's OK, NM is in a league all their own..they're just starting to catch on. I think most people are 10+ years behind anywhoo IMO.

                        Marcel Coenen..hmmmm..I know that name..

Ohhh That's the dude from Sun Caged, Lemur Voice and Mr Kite..I knew his name rang a bell. I have all that stuff. He was in a Satriani tribute band a long time ago. Yeah he's great..

Jeff Loomis writes exactly what I want to hear...I connect with him much more than dudes like Rusty or Marcel.

                            Mine changes a lot too.

Some of my favorite guitar sounds come from these albums (In no particular order) :

Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten

                            Massacre - From Beyond

                            Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption

                            Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding

                            Entombed - Left Hand Path

Dismember - Like an Everflowing stream

                            Death - Leprosy/Spiritual Healing

And for the crunch sound...Metallica's Kill 'em All does it for me

Dying Fetus also has a pretty badass tone.

Really? Every time I check I only find the ss-140c instead of the vh.

Not to mention they're going up in price a lot.

                                I'll own one someday...hopefully.
