Steve Morse told me to improve your speed...

      1) pratice the riff at a slow or moderate tempo

      2) play as fast as you can, over and over for a bit

      3) then, play it slow or moderately again

at the slower tempos you need to be sure accuracy is what you're going for. eventually that will fall into the fast tempos as well. if you can't play it right slowly, you'll never play it quickly. you can hide mistakes when you play fast, but to even have a chance of playing it right, you need to play it slow.

these aren't his exact words, just something he told me 10 years ago after his pre-concert clinic. he also said it during the clinic. his talk with me was just re-emphasizing what he said, because he thinks it is that important.

listen to what steve says. STEVE MORSE RULES!!!

when playing powerchords use your pinky, not just your two fingers.

        do things til it hurts.
