For slowing down songs....

Paulbag asked on another thread about slowing down songs, metronomes, etc... So, here's an efficient way to do it:

1. Get the free CD to Wav and MP3 Ripper.

This will let you quickly convert CD songs to Wav or MP3.

2. Get the free Chronotron II Plugin for Winamp.

This will let you slow songs down without changing the pitch.

3. For a metronome, get the free Sun Metronome.

These are great little programs and the price is right.

If you want to save just a portion of a song or solo for learning, GoldWave is great for that. It's shareware but not crippled.

If you need to save sections (or whole songs) as MP3, get the free LAME MP3 Encoder.

So if I want to learn a solo from a CD, I'll....

1. Convert the song to MP3 using CD to Wav and MP3 Ripper.

2. Save just the part I want to learn as a new file using GoldWave (with the LAME encoder installed).

3. Play and loop the new file in Winamp with the Chronotron II plugin, set for the speed I want.

Chronotron rules! I use it to alter both pitch AND tempo. However, I have the paid full version, so it's not the be-all-end-all el-cheapo solution I typically provide to my brothers on here. I never knew there was a Winamp plugin that could do that, thats a great idea. I've always ripped songs to Wav and slowed them down using Cooledit.

Keep in mind that for all you Windows Media Player people like myself, Chronotron works there too. I haven't used Winamp in years now.
