New song here...comments please.....

This is my first submission to the forum and I am hoping for feedback, solo was done on my Charvel 750xl with Holdsworth p.u. in the bridge and duncan jazz in the neck (only holdsworth was used for the solo). Comments and suggestions please...give the link a chance to boot up.....

I thought this was fantastic, as well. Basically, a pro quality piece. Here are few critical (and hopefully helpful) comments:

--Wonderful Holdsworthian rhythm guitar work, but you might want to change up the guitar sound a bit so that it doesn't sound quite so much like Allan's personal sound. Maybe work with the mid-EQ a bit just to tweak it in a different direction.

--The mix was overall very tight and punchy, but I think you need to work on bringing the guitar solo up front more in the mix. Not so much that it should be louder, but as it stands now it seems to have more delay or reverb than the rhythm tracks, which pushes it further into the background. This is a common bugaboo when guitarists try to get a 'bigger' or 'lusher' sound. Eric Johnson has this problem, too, so you're in good company! A bit more high-end or high-mids on the guitar EQ might help with this, as well.

--The guitar solo performance is overall pretty good. I've done a lot of jazzy improvising on my previous work, so I know how difficult it can be to get a improv performance you are happy with in a studio setting. That said, I would advise maybe recording a couple more takes of the solo, if you can, because you did 'run off the rails' scale-wise at about 1:46. Happens to me all the time and it can get frustrating, but I would say maybe give it another go.

Otherwise, though, this is good stuff!

Cool, man. Thanks for the input....this was really the first piece I have ever written and definitely a nod to Holdsworth and I'm glad you can hear it!! I re'eq'd things a tad and one of the things I DID do was to add more mids and tad more high end to the guitar solo.....so good call again!! Well, thanks again for commenting, I appreciate it.

Yeah, I never really considered myself a writer. I mean I would come up with stuff but then soon dismiss it as dumb, but I knew I had to get over that mentality, plus the keyboardist and I have been jamming together for a bit and it helps to have someone to run ideas past. Glad you liked it there will be more on the way.......but different than this song...

loved the backing made for this,and the lead was cool too(tone wasnt to my tasting but thats not your problem..lol)lead lines were fine..with cool tension and release

i must say the keyboard solo lines rockedand that tone was great

good job....very clean recording. Everything seemed to flow well. As a Shred head, its not the type of music I would normally listen to. But as a musician I can appriciate a good peice of work. Nice job.
