  • I need comments on that solo...

A few days ago I posted, 3 new original tracks from my band.

    See this thread:

    http://www.jcfonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77109

My band has a gig on next December 14th and 2 of these originals are brand new comps that we are going to play during that gig. Those 2 new songs are in need of a solo.

This is one I just recorded for one of the songs, that comp is titled "If". The recording was done in a few hours and some noodling later I came up with that solo (inspired from the one I jammed at our rehearsal room). I think it's not that bad and fits the whole mood of the song. What you are going to hear is the last 1:30 minutes of the song. There are some hesitations here and there but that was part of the improv. Now I need to re-learn the whole thing.

I used Reaper, EZ drummer and my TonePort GX to record everything. I did all the instruments, bass and guitars except for the drums, I used the patterns included with EZdrummer. Yes, I'm lazy!!!

That was kinda cool 'cause I just put a Dimarzio ToneZone in the bridge position of my cheapo Jackson Kelly and it transformed the whole guitar into a monster! I even think it inspired me to record all of this!!!

Here is the link to the new track:

Rock on and let me know!

I like it up until about 37 seconds, then it seems like the solo doesn't really fit the backing chords.
No wait, on listening to it a couple of times more it's actually fine. Once you practice it so the hesitation is gone and have the timing right I think it'll sound great. Not too flash, but clearly you're an excellent player and have kept the solo to fit the song without trying to show off overmuch.

Nice job on the recording too, sounds very good! Whats this EZ Drummer? I'm fed up farting around with Fruity Loops it's too complex for a man of low intelligence such as meself.

i dig it! i was listening at 37 seconds for a hesitation or something, but i think it had more to do with the chord change. nice work!

Thanks guys for the comments! Yep, the chord change was not very easy to solo over... Mostly for a basement-rocker like I am... I think the guy in my band wanted to trick me with that song!

I'm still waiting for the final approval from my band mates...

I like it. Smooth and aggressive at the same time. Nice key change in the solo too. The only thing I would mess with is the tone. The solo reminds me a little of Alex Lifeson's solo in YYZ. It also has a George Lynch type technique to it. It would be cool if you could incorporate both of those players tones into that solo. Very nice work.

Thanks guys for the comments. Being compared to Alex Lifeson and George Lynch (2 old time favorites) is quite a compliment.
