free recording software?

im looking for some simple and free or very very cheap recording software , im not looking to record an album just a few rough songs or ideas

il be using my toneport

You are in luck! There is indeed one. Its called Audacity. best free software I;ve seen so far.

i would love to do that but funds are low at the moment ..

Reaper is available as a demo with uncrippled shareware - they let you download the full program and after a month you are supposed to buy the licence, but they let you keep using the software for free. Its much better than Audacity - lets you use Vst plugins fully and has the full capabilities of a proper recording software. I've heard of people drop Cubase and use this.

n-tracks also has studio 5 which I believe is still free. Go to http://cent.ntrack.com/index.html and have a look. The people on their forum are rather helpful too, if I remember correctly. I haven't been there in a while.
