  • Good studio headphones?

Ok, recommendations for good studio headphones that have a wide frequency response, little or no coloring (i.e. no bass enhancement), COMFORTABLE, reliable, and can adjust to fit almost any head size - from child to adult.
Also has to block external noise and cannot have a lot of bleed-through (closed back). These will be used for vocal recordings and I can't have the phones bleeding into the mic.

I know there was a thread on this a while back, but the Search function only allows one search every few minutes, and I blew my one search on the Amps section.

Didn't like the reviews on the HD-280.

I just bought a pair to use with my GNX4. I love them so far. Very, very comfortable and sound great. They were the most recommended set for use with my GNX4

          MAtt..

I have been fairly involved in the headphone buying game for a while, and after ownign various higher end Sennheiser products, I wanted a sealed studio can that didnt leak sound for my recordings.

My recommendation, AKG 271's. Tight response, great mid-end. Definately more definition then the Sennheiser 280's which are bass fiends.

I listened to quite a few sealed cans, and I bought my AKG's used on the HEAD-fi forum for 130$ shipped at a steal. I highly recommend!

I saw those at AMS as well. Good reviews all around on it. Some places on Ebay have them for $160, which is still better than $200 from AMS.

              Newc,

If you want something transparent, do NOT get Sennheiser, they suck BIG when it comes to transparency. IMO, they add too much colors to the actual tone/sound.

I use Bose QuietComfort 2 ANC phones. I was thinking about getting them for over a year, but balked at the $400 price tag. Well, I gave in and got them at a good deal about a month ago and I love 'em.

I think the best quality/price ratio is going to be the HD280 or the MDR-7506. I prefer the 280's myself but the Sony's are extremely popular

I use the AKG 270s, which are now the 271s:

They're outstanding speakers, zero bleed when used for vocals, but they're pricey.

I have two pairs of these as well. I've done some rough mixes late at night with these headphones (just messing around and didn't want to wake the family). The mix was not that bad, just a bit bass heavy. I've almost learned to correct for that when I use the headphones.

The only bad thing is that they don't seem to hold up very well. The ear cushions on both of mine have come apart.
