  • Best 80's solo ever written, imo, god this takes me back!

This takes me back to the days were I was trying to get my tapping down fluently. I shunned away from EVH for some reason, but that led me to one of his "clones", who imho perfected the entire evh vibe.

This is not a pissing match guys, I've since come to appreciate EVH!

    Anyways here it is:

God, I hope Vito picks up the axe again some day, despite his injury.

And for fun's sake, here's my nr 2 and nr 3

Nr. 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmt6RaKu8aE (Seems like I got a thing for tapped harmonic )

Nr. 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8g3-Nx_ZFFc (Faster than The speed of light, starts at 1m55, right after that genius groovy wah wah section from Deja Vu)

I'll probably change my mind again next week, but dammit I'm on a Bratta high right now!
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

His feel in the "Wait" solo has always just blown me away. I won't call it my absolute favorite, but I will say it is probably the solo with the least use of a pick per notes played. Monster player.

Vito poops and pees legato. He definitely took the tapping thing in the tastiest direction.

My favorite 80's tapper was Akira though. Here's the title track from his solo album "Tusk of the Jaguar" which I need to track down a CD copy of somewhere. It was so wierd and quirky, kind of like Flexable era Vai.

what? there were any good solos in the 80's????

It's hard to choose the best as there's so many good ones but in my opinion this is the most over looked one, from the early 80's, every note gives you the chills and are on the right spot... not the best tune by this great classic 70's band but the solo is just ridiculous.

Vito brought the heat on that one, I've always been mesmerized by it.

So many to choose one, but I've put this album back into my rotation pretty hard lately, so there you go.

EDIT: Adrian sure has alot of different knobs and switches on that Jackson.

Yeah I am highly curious what the knob and switch behind the bridge are for. Maybe it was rigged for a midi pickup or something?

That's what I'm thinking. They got into guitar synths on that album, which pissed some people off IIRC, and then did it again on Seventh Son.... and for my money, those two albums stand up exceptionally well 20 years later. So much for the "purists!"

Now THAT would be a neat custom shop addition to the new Smith signature.

Ceasing the threadjack! I may make a Somewhere in Time worship thread over in the Artist's section later instead :O
