  • Opinions for another guitar...

    I would like to get a guitar to have it tune 1 step down and be able to play Girs Girls Girls, Wild Side and any other cool song that it's on that tuning. So it needs to have a floyd rose and at least one hum and I would like to have a normal body and not a radical strange body shape... and since it's not going to be my main guitar I would think that the best choise is to go with a used good player guitar that I wount regret having it just for those 2 songs.

    Maybe a Jackson Dinky would be a good choise? Or a Charvel model? I would like to steer away from Ibanez so I would not be just another Ibanez guy (here many guys have them) and thats not saying that I like some of there models but again I'm not going to be using that guitar for many songs.

    Old Kramer Focus go cheap (I've never played one) and I hear so good things about them, that they are as good as american Pacer and all, and I think I would feel bad to not use it propietly.

    So what would you get if you where me? spending not more that $300?

      DK2 or SL3. Or even a Performer or Concept.

        Model 2
        Popular is not the same as good
        Rare is not the same as valuable
        Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

          I've got my SG set up 1 1/2 steps down with fat strings to play Sabbath exclusively.

            The tuning for Motley Crue is... =
            1. Tune E to E flat (half step down) tune guitar to e flat.
            2a. Focus is placed on the G string.
            2b. Like a D tuner in principle. You tune the Low E to the D string.
            Take the low E string and and tune down to the G string.
            3. Tune the guitar to the new low E... and now you have motley crue tuning.

            If you do this with a Floyd Rose be prepared and ready to adjust the Floyd.
            This will take sometime to get it flush with the body again.
            I have a separate guitar for Motley Tunes.
            Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

            "Anyone who tries to fling crap my way better have a really good crap flinger."

            I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

                Yeah, I'm lost too. What's the tunings of each string?

                  I'm a big focus fan.
                  Tough to beat an ESP with an OFR for 3 bills or so.

                    Step by step:
                    1. Tune down to E flat or also known as half step down.

                    We all should know the functionality of the D tuner.
                    The D tuner allows the low E string to be dropped down to low D.

                    Years ago before a D tuner was every thought of we learned to do it manually. We turned the tuner down to take the low E down to D and kept plucking the open D string repeated until we got the low E tuned down to D.

                    With that said, we'll be tuning the low E to the open G string.

                    2. Tune the low E down to the open G string.
                    Keep plucking the open G string repeatedly until you finally get the low E string tuned down to G.
                    3. Now tune the rest of the guitar to the low E.

                    Low E string fifth fret (A)
                    A string fifth fret
                    D string fifth fret
                    G string fourth fret
                    B string fifth fret
                    High E is done.

                    Long time ago many of us were self taught.
                    Meaning, we learned and figured out these tunings on our own.
                    In the above, is how I learned and discovered Motley Crue's tuning and it has worked for me.

                      Soap, I'm still having trouble comprehending that.
                      6E = ?
                      5A = ?
                      4D = ?
                      3G = ?
                      2B = ?
                      1E = ?

                        Why are you tuning the Low E to the D and then retuning the Low E (which is now D) down to the G? I've played Crue since T.F.F.L. and 1 full-step down works just fine for everything up through Girls, Girls, Girls.
