what is a good streaming audio recorder

I'm looking for a free download on that records streaming audio off my computer .

If I understand you correctly, then any audio recording program will work. You need to set the recording source to "What I Hear" or "Stereo Mix" or some other similarly named source.

On Vista:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Click Hardware and Sound
3. Click Manage Audio Devices
4. Click the Recording tab
5. Scroll down and select "What U Hear"
6. Click Set Default

On XP:
1. Double click on the speaker icon in the tray.
2. Click Options->Properties.
3. Select Recording and hit OK.
4. Click the checkbox below "What U Hear".

Now all you need is a program that records sounds. There's lots of those around, so I'll let you find one that you like.

If you're running OS X I can't help you because there's no way I'm spending $2000 for hardware that costs $800 just because it has the Apple logo on it.

You should be able to use the windows audio recorder for this, recording the stereo mix of your soundcard.
