  • Is it safe to ship a high value guitar to Mexico City?

I am working out a trade right now for one of my guitars for another guitar.

The other guitar is in Mexico City and the guy is legit as well as the guitar he has to trade.

I am worried about my guitar getting nabbed in between while getting shipped.

If this was a few years ago I would not worry so much about shipping to Mexico but the way things are in Mexico today I am very concerned of customs "seizing" my guitar because they can. Or it winding up missing before it gets to its destination.

I have a commercial UPS account and will ship insured.

I also dont want to disclose what the trade is till its done but both guitars are easily worth 5grand each.

So has anyone here done business with Mexico City and should I feel safe shipping my guitar there.

Nothing is safe once it leaves your hands. That's what insurance is for.
    Just a guitar player...

that would be like giving away a guitar.

Thats what I was thinking. I thought we had a few members from Mexico or some that are here in the USA that have sold guitars to Mexico.

If you're already having doubts about sending it, don't do it. Insurance claims are always a bitch to go through, especially with guitars.

If the guitars are $5k each, I think I'd be getting on a plane and meeting in Texas or somewhere within the US.

You can always insure it for $7k, document everything with video, pictures and a witness, possibly from UPS. Or you can document it and pack it in their facility with their cameras along with yours and someone there as a witness.

I don't there would be any questions if you can swing that!

Just a couple of thoughts is all.

            Good luck!

Just don't smash it up before you ship it and you'll be ok...
