A lot of metal is way closer to classical music than any other current genre of music in my opinion, metal is totally open territory, you can do whatever you want with it without giving in to standard song structures and predictable melodies. I think it definitely takes an intelligent person to truely understand the intricacies of a lot of metal music, but at the same time I don't necessarily think that there is a real correlation between how smart you are and what music you listen to, although I'd like to believe it

Haha, in truth all the people who listen to Metal in my area, are indeed the intellectually superior (then again, that is not saying very much... *cough*). But, if you move closer to town where it is more of a trend... I suppose "metal-heads" are intelligent and "trendies" are idiots!
