  • Suggestions for Headphones

    I currently have Sony MDR-V600's, which for the most part sound great. However, the earpads have completely worn out, and replacement pads pretty much cost as much as the headphones themselves.

    So I'm shopping around.

    My requirements are:
    * High quality
    * Comfortable
    * Closed-back over-the-ear

    In-ear monitors are not an option, because I need to be able to take them off and put them back on rapidly, and not have to deal with earwax.

    Closed-back is important for both attenuation of outside noise, as well as ensuring people around me don't hear what I'm listening to. Otherwise, I would be getting a set of Grado's.

    So far this is at the top of my list:

    Sennheiser HD-265
    http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Profess...3798457-0459612
    $143.49
    Technical info: http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...st_headphones#
    I have not listened to these particular headphones, but I have listened to similar Sennheiser's in this pricerange (albiet open-back), and found them to be very high quality and comfortable. Unfortunately I don't know of any stores that actually have high-end headphones that I can actually try out.

    I'll take any suggestions under $200, but value is still a consideration.

    kthx

        Actually I just checked out the price of replacement pads for the 7506. Only $9 each! Hell, I might consider the Sony's again.

        The replacement pads for the V600 were $40 EACH!!!

          Here's my friends. Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO. Been for a loooong time. Hard to beat all things considered (quality, sound, attenuation, bla bla.)

          Hey, I just re-read your post. I don't know if these will blow your limit of $200 over there.

            Thanks for the suggestion. I've never heard of Beyerdynamic. I'll google it up.

            Those look to be a bit out of my price range though.

              Probably because they are directed at recording studios. But the DT 770 PRO model is a bit more balanced (not so analytic as most studio headphones) and more pleasant as a HiFi headphone. But they have great transparency nonetheless. I actually think they resale for well under $200 (in Europe anyways).

              "Never heard of Beyerdynamic"... To me, that's comparable with me saying I never heard of McDonald's

                Honestly most studios I've been in use Sony 5706's!

                They must just not be popular in the USA.

                I just found them on Guitar Center's website for $199.

                  Try the AKG K601... great headphones!

                  I just wish I could afford them.
                  I use the Sony MDR-V300, but they sound muddy at low volume levels.

                      Just googled those up.

                      People on Amazon are complaining that they break easily. Hmm

                          I had those in the back of my mind, but I can't find a single review of those on the entire internets!

                          However, they seem extremely similar to the Sony MDR-V6

                            Okay I just called Guitar Center, and they have just about every headphone in-stock and ready to check out that I am interested in (including the Beyer's .. which I am really anxious to try out).

                            I'll report back which ones I decide to buy
