  • I'm just a waiter without super powers.

Disclaimer: I'm very good at what i do and at times enjoy it and i also treat everyone equally if it were up to me everyone would leave happy. but you can't let people walk on you...

Just making this thread because others had some intrest. First i read that story on Chris ROcks mom and she mentioned that the mgr didn't yell at the waiter. How does she know? The professional thing to do is not yell at your employee in front of customers.

    Anysways onto my rants

Heres what i would like to say to every table if possible. Hey welcome to blah my name is Jimmy and i wish i had God powers so that all 5 of my tables(sametime) tonight could have exactly what they want when they want but truth be told i am only a human. To make things easier if you want say mustard and i bring it back and you ask for ranch don't get mad when the next table does the samething and your refills take a bit. If you don't like our prices go somewhere else.
You would be suprised of how many professional scammers come in. They order and eat all the food then ask for a mgr and then complain and get a free meal.

Why are some servers racist? Because history tells the future and once you have been screwed serveral times you remember. Color doesnt really matter its more the class of a person.

Well someone else say something and i will post more.

Once a week, sometimes more, I take my mom out to eat. Usually the same place because the service is 99% of the time is perfect. Sometimes she'll want to go somewhere else, but no matter what, I rate the waiter or waitress on a few things.

I DO NOT care what their skin color or nationality is. How pretty she is or how ugly she is. Don't care about dudes at all as long as they are clean.

One example of killer service is this Mexican restaurant we go to. The service is great. This one guy, my mom loves to have wait on us goes out of his way to make sure we're happy. That's great.

Last week we went there and was seated in a different guys station. He was ok, but slightly pissy and didn't man his station very well. Regular dude comes to our table just to say hello and did a few things for us, just to be cool. Filled our glasses, took care of the take out, etc... When we left I gave our waiter a tip, but on the way out I also tipped other guy because he didn't have to even speak to us... He tried to refuse the tip, but I wouldn't have that! Good guy who does a good job.

At a different place we had a waitress pretty much ignore us until another waitress took it upon herself to wait on us. Our waitress then tried to take over, but it was too late. When we left I walked over to the other girl and tipped her...

Not all customers are assholes and not all of us expect to have the red carpet rolled out on our arrival... I would NEVER bitch about the service or the food just to get a free meal. I'd just never go back. Unless of course I found something nasty in it or the waiter told me to go fuck myself or something. Then it would be a legal matter because I'd break a foot off in his ass.

One of the worst overall places I'll never darken the doors of again is TGI Fridays...

It amazes me how many people do expect servers to be able to pull everything on the menu out of thin air. I couldn't do that kinda work - I have a short fuse and a long reach
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

What do you mean by that? Huh, punk? HUH?

I've seen people in restaurants not even pick up their menus to decide what they want until the server comes over, and then get upset when they excuse themselves to take care of another table while they study the menu.

They usually get a roll covered in mashed potatoes in the ear if I have a clear shot

But truly, a handy tip about restaurants - either know what you want before you get there, pick out what you want before the server gets to you, or if they do manage to get you as soon as you're seated, let them tend their other tables while you browse. They're not slaves that have to stand there waiting for you, they have a job to do, and one table is not more important than another.

In the case of Chris Rock's mother, the Manager should have offered an honest explanation for the delay (i.e. very busy), offered to take her order himself, and then stated it was on-the-house when it was delivered.
If she still raised a stink about it, he should have ordered her to leave and never return, and then called for security to see she was escorted quickly out of the place.
That would surely bring Public Humiliation charges as well, but everyone in the place, including the security, would serve as witnesses to the fact that she was loud and obnoxious and the manager did his best to rectify the situation, but she persisted and he had her escorted out for being disruptive to the business.

Then I'd hit her in the back of the head with a mashed-potato-covered-biscuit

          But that's just me

A few weeks ago i went to a local food chain, the waitress drew a picture on our bill and said "this is in memory of my dead daughter".
            Sheesh, how inappropriate was that!

I have only eaten at TGI Friday's once or twice in my life, but I was meeting an old friend of mine for lunch last weekend, and we agreed on TGIF. The waiter assigned to us was a moron trying to play "cool guy" to the table of giggling college girls next to us, and we made the mistake of saying we needed a few more minutes to decide. He didn't check back with us for twenty minutes. My buddy finishes his beer, and a passing waitress asks if he needs another. He says that he does, and that we're ready to order. She takes care of us from that point forward, except when Mr. Moron stops by to see how the food is.

When we got the tab, we checked to see who was listed as our server. It was the girl, and she got a good tip. Had it been the guy, he would have got nothing and liked it. Byaaah!

I reward waiter/waitress with bigger than normal tips. A server who sees the beer 1/2 empty or the kids drinks running who asks if you want another one before your dry is a good server. Sure I like friendly servers and that helps but even if they are not as long as the take the order, keeps the drinks full, check in to see if we need anything and brings the bill after we say we're done gets a pretty big tip from me

Newc thanks for that comment on ordering. Alot of people just don't understand that they arent the only table i have. For instance i have tables that start asking me how much is this "oh thats over priced" i ask if they would like a few more "no we are ready" 10 minutes later the tables that were happy are now pissed because i wasnt able to tend to them. Normally tables like this don't tip well either so my 15-20percenters just turned into 10-15percenters.

I make 2.15 an hour and normally I don't see that because of taxes. Then you have the std tables that think the standard two dollar tip is acceptable. Let me break it down. Your bill is $50 and you received decent/best of my ablities service while we were on a wait and busy. You leave me 5 bucks. I have to pay 2 percent of what your bill is to the busboy and bar. So now So now your 10perecent is 8 percent which i don't mind. Now think about the std that leaves 2 bucks on that 50. I essenstially paid for them to sit in my section.

Man all this negative attitude in my post....I don't want you to leave in a bad mood i want you to be happy because when you are happy i am happy. Hehehe my downfall is I don't smile but good tables arent effected by that because they can see i work my ass off im very obsessive about my work. If you knew what i looked like you would understand lol.

5 bucks on a 50 dollar tab, wtf? You should get 15 or more if excellent service 10 if average, 8 if you suck I typically check out the place to see if there are other reasons for less than average service that are outta the servers control. I wont shaft them if htye are not responsible...

I was a waiter in a past life. Back in the good ol days when debit/credit card were not the std alot of place claimed tips for you. Anywhere from 6-8% of your ring outfor the night. If you didn't get at least 5% you were basicly paying out of your pocket after tipingthe busboys/bar.

I had one run the I followed as a wiater and still hold to asa customer. Nobody cares why ( food late, cold, suckd, etc ). Just fix it !!

I don't want to hear about the bad day the waiter is having, nor did I burden the customer with my issues that day.

I tip very well. 20% if you did your job, more if you were excellent. My wife sucks at tipping. I always tell her, " What if you were getting the tip ?? "

One super power every waiter seems to have is the ability to know the exact moment to breeze by and ask "How is everything?" just when you've taken a huge bite of your meal, mumble, mumble, nod, nod, Seriously, I could'nt handle a job like that, stupid people just piss me off way too much, I'd get canned for sure. My sister in law has been a waitress for ever it seems, and she knocks down some pretty good bucks, but she really works her ass off

I don't think I could do that kind of work either. Ever see the movie Waiting, or Clerks, Clerks 2? I'd be doing stuff like that to the customers!
