  • Home theatre in a box - opinions.

I've been comparing systems, and this one seems to be one of the better bang-for-the-buck systems.

Anyone have any experience, or other recommendations?

Mine is an RCA theatre in a box. I got it for Christmas a couple years ago. The sound is really nice. Windows rattle and everything. I am sure it didn't break the bank either. This is the one I got, but mine came with the dvd/cd player in the package also.

How much is the one you are looking at?

I don't know what your budget is. But, I just got a full rack of Definitive Mythos.

      http://www.definitivetech.com/loudsp...os/mythos.html

It was pretty pricey. But, I just absolutely love the look / sound that comes out of them. Did a side by side comparison with some electrostatic(I think that is what they are called) speakers and these just sounded 10 times better. The only way you are going to really find out if something is good enough for you is to step into a store and start putting equipment to the pepsi challenge.

That one is on sale for $399 Canadian right now. It has all the features I need, including DTS decoder, and I really like the two tower speakers. It's also 1000 watts total power.

I was looking at a nice Yamaha system that was very similar to yours Scott, but it's only 660 watts total power. It also doesn't come with the DVD player. I don't really need the DVD, butthe extra power is cool. Maybe I'll go to the store and check them out.

I'd never spend my hard earned money on a home theater in a box, unless it was just a hold me over till I could afford something decent.
$1000 can get you a pretty good system.

          Those Mythos speakers are awesome.

Here's a couple pics of my bedroom system.

BTW..I have the RCA one as well.Have had it since 94,and have never had a problem with it. The remote looks a lot like the shoe phone from Get Smart, but it suits my needs...

Hey Wulfe, that 360 on the power amp might not be a good idea - those things have heat issues

Anyhoo, if you've got XBox Live and Dead Rising, look me up on the Survival rankings - I'm #3 headed for #1

I don't care much for the bling systems. Been there, done that, and my TOTL Pioneer system from 1990 is still going strong. Problem is, it was made before 5.1 Dolby surround existed. I just want a disposable plug and play system that I can hook up with my giant HD TV and watch movies.

My drummer has a multi-thousand dollar Yamaha system, that is so ridiculously loud, that it is painful. I dunno, it's a novelty, but I would never use it.

That's not an amp, it's a Tivo. It's one of those stand alone units. I don't use it anymore now that I have the kind with the built in tuner.

Oh it's loud, but I'm concerned more with sound quality and functionality. The whole system including tv was around $5000 but I worked for a high end electronics retailer so I got everything at cost or for free. Points for product spiff programs kick ass!

I got spoiled working there. I've always said, if all you ever heard was a clock radio then a boom box would be the greatest system in the world. It's all about what you're used to. I've sat and listened to $15000 per pair speakers and REALLY got to enjoy the music. I always test speakers with Slayer first, if they sound good then I'll listen to other types.

Okay, so I went to check out some systems, and now I'm even more undecided than before. They have systems from Samsung, Pioneer, Yamaha, LG, Sony, etc, that are all in the same price range, and all have pretty much the same features. I really don't have a clue what I'm going to do. I'm actually thinking I might go for the Pioneer system. It is a receiver, with the 6 speakers. They are only small speakers, but I can upgrade those as necessary. It has 1000 watts total power.

Buy the one that SOUNDS the best to YOU.
                          The rest is irrelevant.

Yes, of course that makes the most sense, except, it's almost impossible to tell in the store what the system is going to sound like in my house.

That's why you have to check out the stores return policy.
If it sucks ass when you get it home... take it back and try another.
