Can you imagine being the trucker and making that phone call: "Uh, boss?..."

2 words for the dummy. "You're fired".

I'll guarantee you those bridge repairs cost more than $134k. Cripes, the detour signs probably cost more than that.

      Dumbass.

I guaran-damn-ty it that it wasn't his fault.

"There should have been a sign saying how high the bridge was!"

"No one told me how tall the arm was!"

        "My dad never hugged me!"

Don't worry - he caused millions of dollars worth of damage, PLUS we'll be paying his unemployment.

          Was he in fact terminated?

I know with most trucking companies that are corporate, there are accidents permitted, after 6 months of employment.

Add that to the fact that there was no clearence sign, and top notch insurance...

I bet if he wasn't fired, he's got an anchor around his neck!

If you work, you´ll make mistakes. If you don´t work ...

But I agree that this one is a no-go. The phone call must have been pretty ugly.

LOL, one of our drivers went under a low bridge, and tore the box right off the truck a few months ago. It didn't damage the bridge though. Pretty funny. He wasn't fired either.

Speaking as an ex-driver with 13 years experience hauling everything from dry freight to busses and heavy equipment, I can tell you that it is the driver's responsibility to know the height of his trailer/load. It doesn't matter if the overpass is marked or not. Hit it, it's your fault. To my eye, the overpass in the picture looks plenty high, at least 14'. I may be wrong.

"Most" freeway overpasses are 14' or better. The standard trailer is 13'6" in height. I always carried a tape measure with me for the heavy equipment. Anything over 13'6" and you better believe I was careful if I wasn't sure of the height of an overpass.

This is why you usually see an escort ahead of really high loads. That tall stick on the front of the pickup truck is set at the height of the load on the truck that is following it. If the stick hits the overpass, they know the truck won't fit.

                  It ain't rocket science folks.

That happened here in Baltimore a few years ago. Unfortunately here, the excavator arm actually lifted the overpass up and a section dropped down into the roadway killing several people that ran into it.

He should have known the hieght of his load, and his planner could have told him the height of the bridge, or an alternate route.

According to this story, all the driver got was a ticket.

My brother-in-law used to work for KDOT. The repairs were approximately $2M. The rebar in that bridge section was sliced in half so they had to remove that whole section and rebuild it.
