Re: How\'s your hearing?

[ QUOTE ]
Over the years of playing, did anyone have any hearing damage? I just noticed a very low hum in my ears, when it's quiet, about six weeks ago. I've haven't wore ear protection since I've been playing, about 11 years ago.

I finally went to an audiologist, had a test done. Had great hearing, but still a low buzz. I ordered these ear plugs, called 'Rock Star' earplugs. Insurance paid for my testing, but had to put out $120 for the plugs. They're specifically designed for me. They squirted this bubble gum feeling crap into my ears to get a molding of the ear canal, then sent them off to be made. It has 6 different filters for it. Should be hear next week.

Don't want to lose the hearing.

Yous guys taking any precautions?

[/ QUOTE ]

I generally can't hear shit. Doesn't really have anything to do with loud music though. I have had 4 major reconstruction surgeries on my ears. 3 on the left, 1 on the right... The left is just screwed!

Most of the time when fluid builds up in there and I really can't hear anything a night of loud music loosens it up.

So I can honestly tell everyone here, you don't want to fuck up your hearing. It can be a very difficult thing to live with and can be quite humiliating at times.

Wearing ear plugs while jamming out at high volumes or at concerts is one of the smartest things you can do.

I'm half deaf in my right ear, and have serious tinnitus in it. My left ear is still a ok (thank god).

Loud music really isn't good for your ears, but I'll be damned fi I put earplgs in when I go to a friggin' show, that's just not happenin'.

[/ QUOTE ] That's me too. Whenever I know the noise will be loud, used to a lot of work on my house, I would put a little wad of TP in each ear. Works like a champ. The decibels go way up when you hammer or use power tools. You young pups don't want to be 55 like me and have to say, "Huh" if they are talkin' on my right side. Yeah I know I'm screwing my hearing up, but right now I just can't be assed. By the time I hit my 40's they'll probably have braintransplants anyways. I'll have my brains transplanted into some young German blonde god type fellow go into the pornbusiness.

Re: How\'s your hearing?

My hearing is pretty fine. I always use earplugs when going to concerts and rehearsing, so that's why I invested into these custom molded earplugs. That way I don't feel like I am missing out.

I don't play at high volumes generally, well not as loud as would cause damage. Loud enough I suppose. I don't wear earplugs at a show usually, but I don't go to concerts very often. I do however listen to music for maybe 2 hours at a time during my commute. Only about 30 minutes do I have it jacked up real loud (when I am walking around Downtown). I'm in my mid 20s and so far no hearing problems aside from my stupid ear condition (my ear doesn't properly push wax out of the ear canal, I have to use drops every couple weeks to make sure they don't get clogged up. Its a pretty common problem buts its a major pain in the ass).

Re: How\'s your hearing?

I have moderate hearing loss in my left ear, but not from noise-induced damage. It is a conductive type hearing loss. It also gives me a shitload of ringing, which can be annoying. I am starting to get some ringing in my good ear too, but not nearly as bad. I have a pair of westone earplugs and use them in my good ear when the sound gets really loud. My current crappy band isn't that loud though, so I haven't been using them all that much. I just make sure I keep my bad ear pointed at the drummer (conductive hearing loss means that you basically have an ear plug "built in").
