• Do you call it soda, pop, or coke?

Check the stats on this interesting map:

http://www.popvssoda.com/countystats/total-county.html

There are even county by county stats! (click on the map for your state)

In some parts of the northeast, it's called "tonic" and I guess in England it's "fizzy drink". What do you Canadians say?

BTW, I say soda.

I'm a product of heredity and environment!
I go by "soda" like my parents from New York,
but growing up in Mississippi I use the term "coke" as well, as in "Y'all want to go get a Coke?". That's exactly how the state and county charts have it. Of course when ordering you specify a brand, but at restaurants if I say "I want a Coke (specifically a Coca-Cola) the waitress will usually ask "What kind?" assuming I mean "soda".

Of course Coca-Cola originated in Mississippi so it's natural we use the term generically.

I say the brand name, but "Coke" is the general term I use to describe a soda pop. My Uncle calls it all "fizz"
My Mom calls it a "soft drink".

The quotes are not working right for me; the punctuation spacing is jumbled together. Anyone else having this problem?
