• every buy a string for a cello?

I went to a local music/guitar shop today with a friend of mine. He had to buy a string for his girlfriends cello.
18 dollars!!!!!
For ONE string!!!

He had like 6 bucks on him, and had to actually write a check for the damn thing.

18 dollars for a string sounds a little crazy, but it's true.

It's not that crazy. You hardly ever have to replace them, and it's about a hundred times more metal than a guitar string. Have you priced a good set of flatwound bass strings lately?

Anything special about the material or construction? 18 dollars for one single string is astonishing.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Put it in a pot of boiling water to clean it. EVH used to do that back in the day to his old guitar strings to bring them back to life.

My daughter broke the C string on hers and it was $30 if I remember correctly. At least they last a long time.

I used to boil strings... I never could get them to work as well though..

One day my dad saw me boiling them, asked what I was doing. Then asked if it worked, when I told him "Not really" he took the B string for his cheese slicer.

oh, I get it, to clean it.
The string was broken, not just dirty.
