• Questions, Anime and some other crap.

I do not know if many of you are fans of Anime, or Manga at all, however let me go on a little rant.

There is one thing that pisses me off about movies, shows, books, songs, anime, manga, ANYTHING!!!

When the fucking series is over!

I watch a show called Naruto, a new ep usually comes out every week, then I have to wait for some jackass to sub it, because I'm too retarded to read Japanese...The series has 84 eps that I have so far, and to my understanding that's the most current. The Mange runs a bit further, but I've not found any fan subbed manga yet.

Another series, (43 or 44 eps, can't recall off hand) is GTO Great Teacher Onizuka, holy shit is it good. It's 10 discs long, each 100 or more minutes, and all of them have some extra features, anyway, this series if fucking awesome...however I don't want to watch the last 4 episodes, I'm afraid of it ending, because I get heart felt emotion going when I think about it.

GTO is about a guy named Eikichi Onizuka, he is 22 years old, and he is how you would see a punk, I don't mean punk rocker, just the way he carries himself, and such. He teaches important lessons, life lessons, and he is a teacher at a school. It details his perils, and the lessons he teaches, really it sounds stupid, but when you watch it, you cannot stop watching.

Another series I watch, is Berserk, there is 26 eps, and A LOAD of Manga, however the problem is, the fan subbed manga is so botched, and they didn't bother to re-organize it to the American, read left to right, up to down kind of deal. Anyway it's about a man Gatts (Gutts or Gatsu), and his way as a mercenary in fuedal times, and the campaigns he goes on, and then the manga later delves into things that happen later through a great betrayal.

Okeay, why do I say all this stuff? Some people watch regular shows, one I REALLY want to get all the eps for is Touching Evil, I've seen like 2 out of 13, and it's awesome. For the most part though, the only TV I watch is Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and The Family guy, and sometimes Magnum PI reruns.

I guess what I'm looking for are some people here that are into Anime, or just have some interest in shows they watch, or whatever, that get hooked, but feel sad like when it's over, or it's done, like there is no more, ain't going to go on.

I don't want to say I feel cheated, I just feel sad when a series or something ends.

(Quick vocab list, Ep is episode, Manga is Comic, Anime is a transliteration meaning Japanese Animation)

Yaoi is bad. It's gay hentai. Hentai is cartoon porn (which is also stupid). Ecchi has a sexual or perverted theme but does not mean porn (Project A-KO is a good example).

Just anyone that knows any good series, or even watches anime, post something, so I don't feel too much like a loser.

The most ridiculous thing I know is a comics called Dragon Balls or something like that. It dragged for several years, wandering aimlessly from one protaganist to another, and the plot sucked. Sheeeesh.

But on the other hand, I've never been a comics/ anime fan.

Actually, I like the Project A-Ko series, though the plot was pretty stupid (other than the subtle hints that Ako is the daughter of Superman and Wonder Woman )
La Blue Girl was also more stupid/comedic than porn, though there were highly graphicly detailed scenes.

But the absolute best series I've seen so far is Macross Plus - definitely a major improvement over the old Robotech (which was the original Macross series with two similar shorter series not related to the Macross saga thrown in to make Robotech part 2 and 3), and even better than Macross II. The thing that I really liked about the Robotech/Macross II/Macross Plus shows (as foar as how they tied together) was in Robotech/Macross, Love (Good) triumphed over Evil; in Macross II, Love conquered all; and in Macross Plus, Love dominated all (or tried to). It does sound corny, but once you start watching the series you really get into it.

Macross Plus also had the coolest soundtrack. Best song in it was 'Voices'. Wish I could find the English language version on CD or MP3 without being ripped from the tape (did that once, but the lyrics start just as a jet takes off).

Anyhoo, I've always wanted to see the Neon Genesis Evangelion series, but there's so many, and I can never find the very first episodes. Then again, I don't spend nearly as much $$ on Anime as I used to, so there's the whole "man, 32 tapes is a lot of friggin money", whereas before I could have dropped $250 on an entire boxed set and not blinked.

Anyhoo, yeah it's always a drag when a good series ends. Robotech did it for me - it was bad enough I missed several episodes due to scheduling, but then you could never find them on tape anywhere, so I was recording them at home. I still missed a bunch, and some I got in reruns were at the back of the tape, so they're out of sequence.

Anyhoo, all my Anime now sits on a shelf, unwatched for the last few years. I should put them on Ebay, but then I don't know if I'd miss them too much or not. Plus they're all VHS, and most people want DVD.

As far as comics is concerned, I'm still at the level of Garfield. It's great though!

Re: Questions, Anime and some other crap.

I fucking detest anime. I've seen maybe two or three good movies, one or two interesting EPISODES of series, but overall... I'm not even a "cartoon = funny kid stuff" kind of person. Anime is almost univesally shittily (did I just make that up?) animated, craptastically dubbed, and boring as hell. Hell, Ninja Scroll bored the fuck out of me. Except Dragon Ball. Not Dragon Ball Z or GT or any of that "LOOK AT ME SHUDDER AND MOAN FOR TWENTY MINUTES WHILE FLOATING IN MIDAIR AND PLEDGING TO DESTROY THE MAN THAT KILLED MY HAMSTER!" bullshit. The original cartoon series, with Goku when he was 6 or something like that. That was awesome.

Anyway, this was about series coming to an end. Yeah, I know what you mean. I was like that when Homicide: Life on the Streets ended. Such a fucking great show, and the ending was just so left-field.

Re: Questions, Anime and some other crap.

I prefer anime over traditional shows. I'm not sure why - it's something in the way they tell stories that makes it appeal to me.

I have a pretty wide taste in anime, but I couldn't stand Naruto. It felt like a pretty dumbed-down shounen show (like DBZ), and as the show progressed, each episode started becoming 10 minutes recap of what happened in the last episiode, and then 10 minutes of actual story - and fights dragging on for four or five consecutive episodes. I think I saw around 20 or so episodes of it before I finally gave up.

Some of my big faves are Noir, Trigun, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Azumanga Daioh and Cowboy Bebop.

Re: Questions, Anime and some other crap.

I was heavily into anime about 8 years ago, long before the days when you could walk into Best Buy and see 1,000 anime titles on their shelves. I bought most of it on laser disc, which are those big 12" videodiscs that pre-date DVDs.

My favorites were Devil Hunter Yohko (see my Avatar), Demon City Shinjuku, Graveyard of the Fireflies, and the like. I mostly bought movies as opposed to long-running series', as laser discs cost $40.00 and up so anime that had 100 episodes would have required remortgaging the house to purchase.

As Black Mariah said, the dubbing is typically horrible in anime, so I would always by subtitled editions so I could hear the original voices. Plus, I studied Japanese for a few years, so I liked keeping my language skills sharp.

I don't watch much of it anymore, as I tend to avoid anything overly mainstream. I did enjoy exposing my 5 year old daughter to anime with "Kiki's Delivery Service" (overdubbed in English, since she can't read a whole lot yet), and may pick up some of the other titles like "Spirited Away" and such.

And there's nothing wrong with cartoon porn; I bought the Urotsukidoji collection which is an absolute classic.

Re: Questions, Anime and some other crap.

I too watch anime and read manga. But not too much. I like Naruto, Samurai deeper Kyo, Tenjo Tenge and some others.
Naruto Anime is up to Episode 86 (i think the raw file was released yesterday and i found the first subbed version half an hour ago and right now download it with 85k/s Bittorrent rules for animes !)
In Naruto Manga Chapter 217 is the latest release.
Here is a great site for downloading the newest releases:
                http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~rmazores/naruto/

Oh and Deneb i wouldn't get too worked about about this stuff. I mean it's comic and nothing more. Yeah it's not cool when a series you liked ends but life goes on

And i agree with Sunbane. Although i like Naruto and watched everything up until now i have to say that those points Sunbane stated are really true. Some fights just last way to long and it really begins to get boring when they stretch a fight over 4-5 episodes when it could be done in 1. And yes those flashbacks from the last episode really suck.

I work at an Anime and Manga store, and last week I worked at an Anime convention 700 miles from home. I still like anime every now and then, but I'm really starting to get sick of it.

I just don't get anime. It annoys the crap outta me as do most cartoons. When I see white kids with black hair and oriental shirts with dragons and crap all over 'em I just think "why?"

I mean, imagine forkin over $45 or more for a shirt with Fred fuckin Flintstone on it

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I agree, but I've gotten the notion that most hentai titles aren't as well crafted as Urotsukidoji. Most are like porn in general - with a very weak story and poorly done characters. I personally didn't like the porn in Urotsukidoji (demon rape and tentacles isn't my thing I guess), but I have to give them credit for at least coming up with a story that was interesting.

The only other hentai title I liked, was something called "Spaceship Agga Ruter", which was a very entertaining sci-fi comedy. Think "Outlaw Star" and add some porn, and you're kinda close.

I have several friends who don't like it either, so I know where you're coming from. I think kids are buying shirts with anime prints for the same reason that some of us buy shirts with our favourite bands on them. It's a fandom thing, and it's probably about making a statement of who you are and what you like. I don't buy anime merchandise though - I'm poor enough as it is - and I'd rather wear a Slayer shirt after all.

Never was a big enough fan of anime to get any, but happened across the tons of Anime Music Videos made by fans on WinMX. Lotta metal songs put to hardcore anime clips. So, the one that caught me was Rammstein - Engel. It's mixed with Neon Genesis Evangelion which technically compliment each other, and was very nicely done.
From there I just had to aquire all the episodes to see what it was about and dam, what a cool series.

Get on WinMX/Kazaa and find 'Rammstein Engel' Evangelion video (about 69MB)

But all that was a binge, and altho I've heard of others mentioned here, never bothered to find more.
