I just call it metalcore...it's more metallic than hardcore, but it's too hardcore to be metal. But a lot of the bands have a lot more elements into their sound than just those two. I think the guys in the bands came up in the hardcore scene when they were my age and younger, and then they got into Swedish metal like At the Gates and Arch Enemy and stuff like that when it was coming out, and put the two together. Labels are silly anyway. Check out Eighteen Visions, specifically the Vanity album, and see if you like Atreyu. It's been a long time since I've been excited about current music like this and I wanna help spread the word, because these bands are the real deal I think...


edit: OH YEAH. There's a band here from Charlotte called Between The Buried and Me that's starting to pick up steam nationally. I don't really like them, but they're like more technical, crazy metalcore stuff, sorta like Dillinger Escape Plan they tell me. You might dig that too. I just think it's cool that they're from the same town as me and they're getting press in Revolver and stuff like that...never happened to a Charlotte band before.

Yeah Box ...I'm diggin' all that stuff...I really am .. and I'm on top of it ...my old 40 year old ass can hang all day with these kids ...so that makes me happy..and I look crazier than most of them do ....I cultivated a look that goes pretty well ...I look like that guitarist from The Drowning Pool ...same exact beard thingy ..shaved head ....it works for me and the young chickies seem to like it ...so I like it! Byzantine and Soul Embrace and Watch them Die ...are kickin' my ass

but my very faves of the genre so far from the states is The Black Dahlia Murder and Lamb Of God ...awesome riffage indeed....and tight as hell!!!!

The New Machine Head sounds good so far ...might have to get that one

I just got Satyricon "volcano" ...and that's pretty kick ass too....a lot more accessble to the masses without selling out ...that's nice !!!


Now only if Metallica will follow this example and reddeem themselves..but they won't ...because they suck beyond repair now!!!

Hey, Byzantine's in the new Guitar World with Uli, in that column they have about new bands. Just a short little write up, but it's good to see them get recognition. I still need to check them out.

Here ya go Bill... www.betweentheburiedandme.com ...like I said, it's not my cup of tea but I realize that a lot of guys would like this stuff, and they're my homeboys that are about to make it big (well as big as someone can get in this genre of music)...the one guitarist is from a town that's like 20 mins from me, I've probably run into him at Guitar Center there and not known it.

Well I just got a great Birthday surprise...Anyone ever hear of the Ohio Doom gods called Abdullah....well Ed Stevens (bassist) just joined Bed Of Nails ...yes he was my missing piece of the puzzle ...brought my demo over his house listened to it with him and he loved it!!!!!
