  • Malware on the JCF

I'm occasionally getting a random pop up saying my Android device is infected or some shit, and prompting me to "clean" it. I assume this is BS malware scammer crap. Only been happening in the last week or so.

I've got pop up blockers and security apps running. Only get it when surfing on my phone, and only get it when on the JCF.

Anyone else experiencing this here on the JCF lately? I suspect there's malware buried in the JCF website somewhere.

Malware isn;t always a bad thing. In addition to the advertising scams, you often find false positives. Ya know, someone posted a picture link hosted on some domain that is from russia and the whole system shuts down or something.

    Here's a story:
A few years ago, the Dauphin County Library System blocked access to my website. They said it was because of pornography. It was a file sharing website, so yeah, we allowed porn. But we had all kinds of blocks and filters. If you wanted nudity, you needed to really set up your account for it. They could have easily just blocked the one section where the adult stuff was allowed. Eventually they did allow access, and eventually, because of google play market rules, we got rid of porn altogether.

But, it was their highly sensitive settings that blocked the entire thing due to false positives.

P.s. - should have said maybe it's not directly on the JCF itself. Could be getting here indirectly from sponsors, ads, links etc.

I haven't noticed anything but again I don't access this site regularly on my phone. I just accessed via Chrome on my iPhone and didn't have any issues. Chrome usually does advise if there is malware on a site that is being accessed.

One of the benefits to browsers like chrome and opera is that they block certain things from happening. That's what makes them work faster, less things are loading. Its not just a matter of them warning you that something isn't kosher, they prevent some things from happening (both good and bad).

I haven't noticed anything lately here myself, but I remember something related to a sidebar ad quite a while back, and there was one user whose photos were causing a malware warning for a while.

I've had it a few times on my phone. There was a notice on Facebook warning people not to use the cleaner, it's another scam.

I saw it on my Droid and the banner ad at the bottom of the page at the time was for the cleaner. So it's some sort of trojan horse on that banner ad.

That's funny, I was out on a job all day yesterday, but I checked in on this thread and got the random pop-up about my Android device. I only read a couple other threads and didn't have a problem.

I think Axe may be onto it, with the trojan "cleaner" ad.

Pretty disappointing that there are still ads at all, with platinum memberships paying. Makes me question the value of that, not to mention the "quality" of the ads that are appearing.

I don't mean ads from sponsoring dealers, etc BTW. Thanks to them.

It's the other crap ads I meant.

All I see are dealer ads when I'm logged in.

I'm thinking someone's hosting their avatar pic at a site that may be attaching a cookie, which in turn calls up an ad that throws up a malware warning with a link to a "cleaner".
