  • Horror movie fanatics...converge!! Sam Raimi content!

Ever since I was a kid, I've loved watching horror movies. The ‘horror gene’ has most definitely been passed on from my mother who has watched several horror movie as well as the Exorcist among others in theaters! Imagine watching 'The Exorcist' in theaters. Its said that they had ambulances waiting outside theaters in the UK and other parts of the world to treat people who would faint during the movie.

Fast forward to the 80's and I'm in 5th grade and back in India, before the VHS rental places became abundant, door-to-door tape rental people were employed by new rental places to travel on bikes with huge bags of tapes and coax people into renting movies. They used to cost about 2 cents (yes, that's right) per day to rent. The guy warned my mom that this movie would be a bit too much for the kids to watch.

But, nevertheless I did watch the movie and was scared shitless. The movie was 'The Evil Dead' by Sam Raimi. That movie set the bar really high for me. I watched countless horror movies after that and other than the exorcist, none came close to it.

Enter 2013, and Sam Raimi is back (not as a director though) with a remake of…you guessed it! The Evil Dead. Watch the trailer here: !!! NSFW!!

So, who is going to watch this movie in the theater? I sure am!!

Ironically, I just watched the original on Netflix about a month ago. I remember thinking how dated that movie was. This should be a good remake as it appears they stuck to the original story.

I don't know. The original was a classic and you won't be able to replace Bruce Campbell.

        Hopefully he'll make a cameo.

Lets face it, it wasn't the amazing story or deft direction that made the original a classic. It was the primarily Bruce Campbell's involvement that made it good. And they got better with every "sequel".

Like the original it will come down to the charisma of the lead that will make this great or a terrible waste of time. The fact that Ash appears to now be a chick will be an interesting twist.

Yeah, I agree Bruce campbell was killer in the original. But so far, the trailer seems pretty good. And thank god they didn't quote 'the most terrifying movie you'll ever see' and then say "rated PG 13"

I'll never forget renting the first Evil Dead when it came out on vhs in the 80s - the scene with the tree was just like "WTF!!!???" as I was probably about 12 or so at the time. I'm not a big fan of these remakes but I'll definitely be checking this one out.

+1. The ED is probably my all-time favorite horror movie. I saw it for the first time during "movie night" at my college dorm and it ruled. I am against them doing a remake of it. The original was scary as hell, but it also had this unintended slapstick humor aspect to it that cannot be replicated. The remake looks to be more in the humorless "gore porn" genre, of which I am not a big fan.

That being said, I probably will go see it.

Horror fans should also check out the two American Horror Story series on FX. That's some good shit!

                      Money grab.

Evil Dead was a classic, though it was really low budget and not really that great, it's the foundation that brought ED2... I think it's possible they could remake ED better. As for ED2? Good luck with that.

yeah, some episodes in season 1 were very nice...and the way all those bottled jars they show at the beginning and the "evil" doctor father...everything seemed to lead in the right direction. but then they dwell too much on the mother, I forget the name, trying to get a baby and other things, I lost interest. I'll check out season 2.
