Toss up between Screaming Trees & Mother Love Bone for me. All the little side project stuff was pretty good too like Temple of the Dog.

Doing this poll because the cover of this Guitar World pissed me off.

Can't cross off Alice in Chains if they're not on the list.

out of the 3 bands on that cover, Soundgarden are far and away the best. Alice in Chains aren't grunge.

Just had this conversation last night with my friend (we we're watching AIC unplugged) about how you really can't put AIC in a genre... they're just too dam good.

The only band in that list that was actually really "grunge" or that mostly defined it was Soundgarden, everything else that came after them (and were influenced by them to a degree) from Seattle got the "grunge" moniker. Doesn't really matter, however Soundgarden started it and defined it before anyone else, i think the common consensus from most people around in the scene during the early days is most would identify grunge as early Soundgarden.

Alice in Chains was a part of the seattle movement(grunge). I don't know how anyone can say different.

It's hard to define "grunge" because there were only a handful of important grunge bands, they were musically all over the map, and that whole scene imploded pretty quickly. That being said, yeah AiC was grunge. Grunge...with guitar solos!!

Pearl Jam had guitar solos, but of the above, hands down Alice in Chains.
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

Sorry, was never impressed with any of them. That whole Grunge thing was a waste of musical time
