  • Soo, I bought my first TGD Big Screen Tv Earlier Today...

Yup, bought a Sanjo 50'' Plasma 780p. Its for the "family", so I think Ill be in the clear on this one.

Anyhow, was weary about not going 1080 for double the price, but my eyes and brain cant seem to handle 780, so I think Im good. My god, the definition is mesmerizing. I mean, damn. Its one thing on my 17'' computer screen (which does 1080p), but a 50'' screen is something else.

Had to buy a new TV stand too. Took an hour to put together, but Ill be god damned if all the parts were actually there. Blew my mind. Anyhow, watching Despicable Me(dont laugh, I have a thing for animated comedy) and waiting for the woman to come home and shit her pants. This thing makes my living room look smaller. The TV we had in the living room before was a 22'' flat screen. Thats why wed been using the computer lately, it seems bigger because its right next to you. No need for that anymore.

The best part, $598 at Wally World.

        Lightbulb!

Welcome to the world of bigscreen tv!! Should have gone with the 1080p, blueray is incredible! A world of difference my friend between the different aspect ratios. As long as you and the mrs. are happy with it who's to argue! Wait till you get that surround sound stereo and hook it up! Never need to go to the theater again!

I used to play the surround sound game. Stereo equipment is too much hassle for me anymore. Ive seen the BR stuff used with LED(which is what I really wanted, but the LED stuff needs to come down a bit more first, Id love me some Samsung LED technology though) and to me, BR with 1080p Ive seen demoed in stores kind of kills certain movies, like Monsters Inc. and Avatar. They went to all that trouble to make it look as real as possible and the BR and 1080p make it obviously computer generated again because of the immense resolution. But my god is it detailed. Monsters Inc with BR and 1080p I noticed stuff Id never noticed before, like Sullys fur hairs individually waving in the breeze when he moves. Im surprised the animators went to that much trouble. Hair in Despicable me is static, it doesnt wave, its just there.

Cool. Are you sure it's not 720p? What is your viewing distance? Move in closer for an even more enveloping experience.

Yeah, sorry, 80 on the brain. 720p. The couch is about 10 to 12' away(you can see now why the 22'' tv was about useless), but while I was getting it all tuned in in regard to picture settings, I was only a couple feet away for about 45 min.. I think Ive fried my retinas and brain. The real world seems fuzzy now.

EDIT: Btw, Im still using the computer, but as a HD player, not the actual viewing device. HDMI kicks ass.

Back in 02 when we got our first "big" screen(42in rear projection) I showed the wife the difference between the coax cable, RCA, Svideo and colour component and she was amazed at the difference between all of them(Shrek was the first one we watched on it with our son). Yup! HDMI rules! All of the PIXAR movies are great in 1080p on blueray. Oh, video gaming won't be the same now either! LOL!!!

Cool Twitch. I was "forced" to upgrade when my 32" tube took a shit about 6 months ago. Life is good.

A big screen can no doubt be addictive. I had a 46" 16:9 HDTV for awhile, but ended up switching over to a projector/screen setup. Have a 107" 16:9 screen at 10.5' right now. Projector is about three years old and is 720p. Would like to upgrade to 1080p at some point. Lots of fun to watch and wasn't really all that expensive. Have it setup in the living room. Yes, I'm single.

                        I like Chad's idea..the bigger the better!!

Man before I started buying jacksons. I went nuts on a home theatre. Movies are just a big as guitars for me.

High end klipsch 7 ch surround. 2 down firing klipsch 12 inch subs. full .hd reciever and a 1080p 73 inch widescreen tv

Love playing games on it. .

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned porn on the big screen! It's one thing on you're 22'' monitor but hook your tower up to your big screen and POW!!! Yeah baby!! Now that's what I'm talking bout!!
