The biggest issue I have seen with the Duncan Designed Pups is that the quality and sound varies. I picked up a set that I can't tell the difference between the DD and actual Seymour Duncans. I have also tried 2 sets that sounded like a cheaper Pup. They are wound to the same specs and use the same type of magnet, they just cut costs where they can. Foreign made with less QC control, non shielded wiring, but they are still wax potted.

I tried one with DD and one with original SD on two different Rhoads Jacksons. On the same amp, the DD sounded more plasticy for some reason. I don't know what else effected the tone but it was the same amp and settings and very similar Rhoads guitars.
As far as anything else goes thats all I can say.

Edit: If you have a DD that you end up liking, might as well keep it.

No offense Gank, but if you don't like them, then why does it matter?
Unless you want to sell them...

But why would you replace a Duncan designed? Thats like replacing an old parachute with a hole in it another one with a hole in it.
I missed the part where I said they were bad, and I was gonna replace them. Just wanted to know what I had from the link posted...

Plus I can see how you can get the word "Gank" confused with "sprocket" they're pretty close

Must be "piss on the new guy" day.

Geez, calm down everyone, before Bill Z comes in here and runs someone else out of town.

Bottom line, if you have different pickups and you don't like the sound the current ones have, swap them. Even if you suck at soldering it won't take more than 30 minutes.

I think the Distortion has a very tight low end, but you may want to experiment and try something new, maybe even going to Dimarzio. And of course, there's always the JB. It's a very good general purpose pickup.

            Damn. That's my favorite part.
As far as I'm concerned he can stay with Dean and play his dots+fins KV copies, and whatever that aborted fetus he "designed". More like "I saw it in my puke". -Newc

Everyone that signs up here seems to think any comment aimed their way is derogatory. If you actually read what I said there was nothing derogatory about it.
                    So calm down.

I believe there are only two kinds of DD pup - one that has big hex poles, looks like a Duncan Invader, that's the one that is based on the Duncan Distortion, rather confusingly.
The other one just looks like a normal pup and I think that's based on a JB.
Someone already posted the numbers of them.
So if yours stop working, you can figure out what they are from this.

And yeah, I had a set of the JB-type ones and they were pretty good. A bit hotter than a real JB, but not bad.

                      nope
                      103-distortion
                      102 JB/JAZZ
                      108 invader
there are others that are rarer. These even an Iommi one that was used in his signature guitar when he wasn't with gibson.
GC used to, maybe still does sell the distortion and invader under the performer pickups as the detonator-invader and the buckshot-distortion.

I saw that Gank was a junior member, and then I saw a post by a junior member, but didn't think to check the user name, so I just figured it was him, that's how I got it wrong. And I DID NOT say anything derogatory, but I do apoligize if it came off that way. Don't forget we all were junior members once too. I think I got off to the worst start when I was a junior member. (Now Blazer's episode was way worse, for example, but he was already a member.)
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

People need to read and understand what's being said to them before moaning "Oh it's piss on the new guy day".

Sounds like I'm not the only one who went through this... and now I'm a moaner, thanks.

I did read and understand what you said...If I like what I got, keep them, if not ditch them right? I looked at the link with the pick-ups, I couldn't tell from the link and looking at my guitar what ones I have.
Who knows, maybe I'll replace them with Duncan's, Dimarzio's or whatever.
