Hang on - you can't just screw in the trem springs to compensate for a high angled bridge. That isn't going to work. You need to do it while tuning the guitar. Just tightening the screws randomly is NOT going to work (as you found out).

Do you have a tuner of some sort?
If the guitar was perfect before this string change, I'd guess the problem is all down to a change in string gauge, so you should just need to adjust for that. It's not a hard job, and if that IS all that's wrong you don't need to fuck about with the saddles or truss rod.

Before you do anything, I'd take it back to the dick that changed the strings and tell him to sort it properly.

THEN buy one of Dan Erlewine's books and stay away from that "tech"!

Just to add, if you are pretty sure the tech pu the same size strings on and you changed from EB to DR, then will be a different tension. I've found this to be the case when going from Ernie Ball to DR or D'Addario strings. These strings do not stretch much, but not enough to pull your bridge up at a large angle as if changing gauges of strings.

I don't have a gage to determine it, but I could guess and check? And one of you also said I should or shouldn't adjust the truss rod? I'm thinking that's the reason they aren't close to the fretboard, it's bowing downwards. I'll try what you said though Bengal and possibly buy that book, Martin.

Hey, here is some free reading. It's for a Strat, but everything applies.

My camera sucks pretty big, and I guarantee my cellphone would be worse. I'll try to get better pictures somehow and update ASAP.

Look on Youtube for a video showing how to change strings on a Floyd. There's a few on there, and any of them will help you sort this out.

If this dude screwed up something this basic-simple, the LAST thing I would do is take it back! If this is what happens to a dead-simple Floyd setup - what's a truss-rod adjustment gonna look like??
                    750xl, 88LE, AT1, Roswell Pro, SG-X, 4 others...
Stilletto Duece 1/2 Stack, MkIII Mini-Stack, J-Station, 12 spaces of misc rack stuff, Sonar 4, Event 20/20, misc outboard stuff...

Why do I still want MORE?

Yeah, he's pretty young and I thought that a string change would be a piece of cake for him. Another question for you guys, how much would you charge for a simple string change?

A string change takes about ten minutes tops on a Floyd type guitar. So work it out yourself. People need to make a living, so guys in a shop aren't going to do it for free.
But it seriously takes minutes and is a piece of piss job so...I dunno, in the UK if I was to do that for someone (I'm not a pro so don't quote me!) I'd never take more than about £6 to do that. Say $10. I'd feel like I was ripping the guy off even at that but if that's how I made a living, I'd say that's fair.

Wow, don't take it back to that guy. Just cut your losses and learn how to do it yourself.

There are hundreds of tutorials on the web, just search for "floyd string change". There's even one at www.floydrose.com.

To check the bow of your neck, capo at the first fret, and then fret the last fret. You should have a very small gap (like enough to slide a pick through) at the 7th fret. If there's no space at all, then you need to adjust the truss rod to give the neck more relief. After adjusting the truss rod, some people like to wait a whole day to give the neck time to adjust. I usually give it about 15 minutes and check again. Once I'm happy with it I'll leave it alone and then check it the next day to make any minor adjustments. Just remember to do no more than 1/4 turn at a time. You don't want to break anything.

As far as what I'd charge for a string change...if I owned a shop probably $10. If I didn't own a shop, I'd do it for free and have the person watch.
