    Can you visually distinguish a Ceramic mag from an Alnico mag just by looking at them?

      Not really.
      Best bet is to look up the specs for the pickup and see if they state which magnet is used.
      The ceramics I have seen are usually thinner than an alnico 5

              the ceramic mag is a darker colour (brownish black) while the a5 and a2 mags are a silverish colour.

                The Alnico 8 is a darker color as well.
