Seriously though, I know what you mean. What is it with that particular string?
A lot of chords have the third on the G-string, and 3rd's are oh so temperamental! Hey I made a funny.

        ...

I read somewhere that the tuning problems on the G-string have something to do with the fact that the string is unwound.
Originally it was a wound string but when the design changed the tuning problems occurred...or something. Can't really remember exactly.
I might be talking out of my arse.

Finger pressure? Sounds bogus but it's for real. How hard do you push on the strings?

I've experimented with a lighter touch. Not a big difference.
I have it set up *pretty* good right now. Not perfect but pretty okay.
I'll try to get it better later when I'm not busy learning the solo to "Cherry Pie"

Fatter frets hurt intonation, especially when you get higher up the fretboard.

Unless your frets are perfectly set up so only the tip of the fret is in contact with the string.

One thing that may help is to check neck relief. I had an acoustic that would go out of intonation during the change of seasons. I could put it back in tune by adjusting the neck relief, I never had to mess with the bridge/saddle. If you are just out a small amount at the 24th, it could be the cause, it would cause a small difference in the overall length of the neck/space between frets.
