I gotta say I was introduced to electronic tuners late in the game. It took me several years to finally get one, a small palm-sized Sabine which I still have, but have misplaced. Before that, I'd tune to an open string I'd hear in a song like the open A or G in the beginning of One. I guess, I thought it was a luxury plus it had a stigma to me that is was "cheating"a little bit, cause I wasn't using my own ears.

Well, I've since abandoned that myth when I see that everyone uses them. I'll have to keep a look out for one of these Strobos.

I have an el-cheapo Zenon 331. Educate me...
I have worked on guitars for years and use touch harmonics,
compared to fretted tones, and have NEVER found a "perfect"
guitar setup. In other words, there is no such thing as perfect tuning all the way through the range. So it's always some sort of a compromise. The same guitar in different hands will sound different, depending on the player's touch. So why would an excellent strobe tuner be so different, except the reference tones? I have been blessed over the years,to get it pretty close "by ear", then fine tuning by harmonic/fretted comparison, and bell tone differentials.
          Hmmm?
