"Carve wood" is a bit of an exaggeration.
Roll up some sand paper and open the hole up a bit.
We're talking about a fraction of a millimeter.

Glad I checked the search function for this one.....my exact question~

      Only wanted to add:
What the the pros/cons of the 250K, 500K or 1Meg pots?
am changing the duncan designed HB to duncan distortion....not really concerned about the two singles on my DK2.

      Thanks~

250k will warm the sound of the pickup if it's too bright. 500k is a little brighter. 1meg is the brightest.

        Here's a description from Stew-Mac's site.

        250K vs. 500K
Generally, 500K-ohm pots are used with humbuckers and 250Ks are used with single-coil pickups. 25K pots are used for active systems.

You can use any value you like, but a 250K will give a slightly warmer tone than a 500K pot. The 250K pot bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground. A 1 Meg-ohm pot will attenuate even less than a 500K pot, so if you want to hear your guitar "wide open" you may want to try one.

          Toejam,
What do you interpret "wide open" to mean? Sorry to be a noob, but I am not sure I get what they are talking about...
